For this analysis, I’ll be focusing on Atletico Madrid attacker Memphis Depay, who’s been in excellent form of late on his way to bagging four goals and one assist in his last 200 odd minutes of action.
To shine the spotlight on his fine showing in Atleti’s recent game with Valencia, where he scored a goal and laid on an assist, this evidenced what a weapon the former Manchester United, Barcelona, Lyon and PSV star still is, where he was superb alongside the masterful Antoine Griezmann.
Finding his groove once more to help his team defeat a Valencia side who had won four straight in La Liga coming into the match, his contribution was immense, in a match where he showed how good he can be when fully fit and healthy.
Set to be key man, like he’s been recently, his importance will especially be heightened as Atleti have such a heavy upcoming schedule in La Liga, the Copa del Rey and in the Champions League, thus meaning he’ll surely get many more chances to illustrate just what a game changer and an integral member of Diego Simeone’s squad he is – both when starting games or coming off the bench.
