Matt Turner has seemed incapable of doing the things required of a modern day keeper. This crushed his confidence and even his shot-stopping prowess. Are US Keepers even being developed to be a “modern” day sweeper keeper? No evidence for that currently.

I think when you have a FO who’s worried about FFP bringing in new players for large sums of money who in all honesty they really don’t need becuse the FO is clueless
To add to my last comment do you think it’s time to see how Patrick Shulte starts off this MLS season with Columbus he’s solid with his feet but he needs to improve his shot stoping
Makes some quality saves that nottingham forest's other keepers don't seem to be able to pull off, BUT he makes like one crazy weird error everygame that costs/almost costs a goal. I agree he seems to be choking or nervous. I really think people like Neuer revolutionized the position. People like buffon are still great because they were able to adapt but most importantly atleast play decently with the ball at their feet, sure not like Neuer, but he never gave the ball away in stupid positions like Turner has, and also wouldn't allow near post goals.
Horvath wanted out. He wanted a permanent deal and a starting spot. He's a better keeper than Turner no doubt…and he actually has feet.
Tuned into the NF Arsenal match… watched that ball go through Turner's legs near post… felt that in the pit of my stomach. Announcers were already giving him sh*t about the free kick, poorly placed wall in match before. Sucks.
No… I don't think our keeper development has changed… at all. And I think more than development, what helped past keepers was the amount of work all young Americans get with playing every sport with their hands. Just look how the position is played in our league and national team. Old school shot stoppers with marginal expectations with feet, distribution. Not a sweeper keeper to be found. Most keepers developed abroad have cut their teeth playing field positions, playing with their feet on the street.. have developed higher level of technical ability much earlier… have a significantly higher base level of skill with their feet to start off with. Most keepers here started as GK having skipped that step in development. You're not going to near enough time to develop that at a later stage with the time they get in practice from a GK coach. Turner having never been near the sport until very late is really at a disadvantage in that aspect of the game.
Excellent analysis. Forest's coach actually said on TV he made the change because the team needed confidence.
Greetings from the UK.
I really like these 10-20 minute clips about a specific topic. Great video, gentlemen!
