Hello everyone, welcome to another edition of Inside Arsenal. In today’s show I discuss Thomas Partey and the fact he will be staying at Arsenal rather than going to AFCON with Ghana. I also look at Takehiro Tomiyasu as he closes in on a new contract and look ahead to this weekend’s FA Cup clash with Liverpool. I then end by responding to some of your comments from yesterday’s show.

1:43 – Partey decision
6:04 – Tomiyasu contract talks

  1. I think it is way more too much of overreaction to our performance. We have performed well 3/4 half’s over the last two games, with the last half against Fulham being noticeably poor. We’ve been more unlucky than anything.

We do need more firepower coming off the bench though.

  2. Charles if it is not conclusive and you've never experienced it before as a player of this contact I don't think you're in a position to make judgement whether it is a dive or not. I'm not criticizing you, I'm just explaining it as I've had this kind of contact before as I'm sprinting and it absolutely puts you off balance.

  3. I think the whole Xhaka talk is sort of justified, but at the same time, i think it looks like we are missing him more than we actually are. People have to remember that we are missing Partey as well, who was very influential in how we played last season. If we had Partey fit and available this season, i dont think we would even be talking about Xhaka, or very minimally at least. Rice is capable of doing the same Role that Xhaka played, as well as play DM. As for Havertz in tgat role, it was always going to take time for him to get his confidence back and he still probably needs a bit more time to not only fully understand his new position, but also understand how other players operate and move around him. Ultimately, i think not having Partey this season is arguably the biggest impact on our attacking play, as he helps our transition be more quicker and precise with his passing range.

  4. Hi Charles love the channel.
I really believe that most of our problems lie with Arteta's unwillingness to rotate the squad.
Due to his rigidity with regards to the starting line up, the squad players run out of form and don't appear to develop. The game against Fulham was the ideal opportunity to shake up and rotate the squad, offering a chance to players who are less favoured but would have been really keen to impress.
Sometimes it comes down to desire more than ability, as we saw in both our last 2 matches.

  5. I think you're wrong about Ødegaard being a pen & comparing with Jota Pen which is a clear dive. Ødegaard handball is much more subjective, but imo he slips as he tries to change direction to which he attempts to use his hand to stop from fully falling down. That is a natural position imo.

  6. Its clear when you watch the Odegaard decision that his right foot slips then he falls to his left and reaches for the ground. You then completely misrepresent it as him sticking his hand out in a "panic" just to back up your rhetoric concerning V.A.R.
You've become one of those hyperbolic 'journalists' that try to create news instead of just reporting on it and I dont think I can support you anymore.

  7. We're missing xhaka is this the same xhaka that was at arsenal for 7 season and the last season he was better than he's normal woefulness! As arsenal fans some of you have really settled for mediocre he played in all them games last season when we threw any slim possibility of winning the title.

Now you're settling for Havertz he's no way near a player we should be paying £67m for, he's bang average! Chelsea got all that money for him and in return they've got Cole Palmer (far better player IMO) for £42.5m. I know which player I'd prefer! But then I here stick Havertz up top and sling balls in the box, so that's why Arteta paid all that money for him…

Again with my realistic head on we're not winning major trophies (any for that matter) with the likes of Havertz, Zinchenko then throw in the Nketiah's and Nelson's.

Please move on from the xhaka thing, ask yourself this would xhaka get in the Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, midfield? I'd throw in most of the top ten sides in the midfield xhaka wouldn't get into! So please let's be blessed that we got ONE good season out of SEVEN yep SEVEN, you keep stating to get rid of the Lokongoa's and the Tavare's but hey why not give them SEVEN seasons to come good???!

  8. Charles, I just wanted to say that YOU DO AN AWESOME JOB!!! I follow Barcelona and Arsenal, I follow several journalists for those teams, but brother I have to say, you are my favorite! Very nice and calm way to deliver the news and your opinions, without heated spare of the moment comments. Your are unbiased, pleasant to listen to, and very professional, GREAT JOB Charles! I do need to get my hands in your book. Knowing your work here, I know your book must be a master piece. Anyway, I give credit where credit is due. Keep it up Charles Watts!!

  9. I've met a couple of people who knew Chris Hughton from years back. Both emphasised what a decent sort he is. Guess this confirms that.

  11. Dear Charles, I have been watching and listening to your shows for almost two years now and can't emphasize what a pleasure it is to have your thoughtful videos and insightful news in my daily routine as a relaxing escape from the chores and stresses around us. As a lifelong dual US-UK citizen and Arsenal fan living in Cambridge, MA, USA, you have helped me feel more connected to the club I love than ever before.

It would be a lifelong dream come true for me to attend a game with my dad this year, especially with the potential for a very special season for us to remember it by. If you have any pity for me, please consider helping my dad and I find tickets for when I travel from the US to the UK to see a game whilst visiting my UK relatives as I do not know where else to turn. I want to go to Arsenal v Newcastle February 24 but am realizing that having only joined the ballot system it will be nearly impossible to get tickets. While I know third party vendors sell tickets, spending $600-1000 dollars on tickets that are illegal and create uncertainty about admission doesn't seem like a sensible option, unless you are aware of a reputable vendor.

Any thoughts on what to do? Worst case scenario, do you have a pub recommendation to catch the game?

  12. The team's morale seems to have dropped since benching Ramsdale.
Is Raya an improvement or another show of MA’s stubbornness at the team's cost?
Ramsdale is the priceless motivating engine on the field of play. He oozes confidence and lifts the spirits of players and supporters.

  13. Of course nobody want to "buy" our players … our manager does not want them so they are devalued. Why to pay for someone that can get it for free

  14. I feel arteta needs to take a risk as he put himself in his situation and pressure. No way he can sign any decent striker. Here is a plan, He needs to sell ramsdale, get in good money use it to by a no good 6 similar to partey or Rodri and put rice at 8 thereby moving Havertz as no 9. Saka and Jesus should be rw options , Trossard and martnelli as LW options. Then use some money to buy decent versatile full back that could play CB if needed specifically RCB. This is his only way forward

  15. Hi Charles, I hope all is good 👍. Arsenal needs to sign a striker like Haaland who will score goals. COYG 🏆 to beat Liverpool God willing 🙏. Have a good day Charles 😊. Arsenal rocks 🏆 🙏 🤲 🪨 🎸 😎.

  16. Charles your embarrassing sound like pathetic Arsenal fans on twitter crying about Liverpool worry about your own backyard especially after you got away with that Odegaard handball at Anfield you hypocrites and the bloody keeper himself said it was a pen, Arsenal fans are annoyed cos they talked themselves up all summer and a Liverpool team in transition is again showing this race will be between them and City last season was an outlier!
