Liverpool is exploring signing a full-back faster than Kylian Mbappe.
Liverpool has reportedly initiated discussions to bring Fulham’s Antonee Robinson to Anfield in January. The Reds currently lack a traditional left-back due to injuries to key players in that position. The first-choice left-back, Andy Robertson, is sidelined with a dislocated shoulder, while Kostas Tsimikas is recovering from a broken collarbone.
Consequently, Jurgen Klopp has deployed Joe Gomez on the left in Liverpool’s recent games. According to 90Min, Liverpool is actively pursuing a new left-back, with Robinson being a prominent target on their wish list. The report suggests that Liverpool has approached Fulham regarding Robinson and is working toward reaching an agreement. Encouragingly for Liverpool, the U.S. international seems open to a move to Anfield.
Antonee Robinson checks many boxes for Liverpool, but Fulham is unlikely to let him go at a low cost. Robinson has been a pivotal player for Fulham, earning a new contract in the summer. The 26-year-old has amassed 128 appearances for Fulham, including 21 this season, with 18 in the Premier League. Robinson has also represented the USMNT 39 times and participated in the 2022 World Cup, gaining recognition as one of the fastest players in the tournament.
He recorded the joint fourth-highest speed in Qatar (21.99mph), surpassing Kylian Mbappe (21.87mph). In the summer, Fulham reportedly set a £35 million price tag on Robinson, though this was before he extended his contract. The negotiations may prove challenging for Liverpool, as Fulham holds a strong position in discussions and is unlikely to make it easy for the Reds.
