Transfer journalist and ITK Fabrizio Romano has announced that Hammers defender Thilo Kehrer is close to moving to Monaco. Gonzo reveals why the German defender never really stood a chance at West Ham under David Moyes.

Romano said: AS Monaco and West Ham are finalising deal for Thilo Kehrer. It will be loan deal with mandatory buy option clause in case of specific targets.

Understand AS Monaco will pay €500k loan fee.

There are still details to clarify in order to get the deal done & sealed soon.

  1. I believed that kerher could of played as a backup cdm partner for alverez as soucek is alot less mobile than him if the manager decides to change tactics cough cough

  2. The game yesterday highlighted our real lack of depth – we would have lost yesterday with another key player missing, such as Alvarez, and came close to losing in the second half anyway. Really hope we can get a key signing or two in at least this window, early too. Bench options last night were non existent for Moyes.

  3. Not happy Kehrer leaving – think he’s got real quality, but also think it’s understated how at fault he was for a lot of goals conceded last season. Not always obvious errors but a lot of dodgy positioning and marking. Think he improved and seems like a good character but overall wasn’t great.

  4. Kehrer is probably one of the most complete players in squad. I'd have liked to have seen him in Dm instead of soucek. Better on the ball and also a great athletic ability.

  5. Would he have known he was coming in as a stop gap? We do not know what he was told during the recruitment? I feel he could have been used as a defensive midfielder…anyone.

  6. It infuriates me that Moyes has so much form for not playing players he has signed. He seems more than happy to let them rot on the bench, or forces them to play out of position, all in a system that doesn't suit their natural playing style. He does this just to prove a point. It is terrible man management of the highest order. I often think about his treatment of Alex Kral, during the scary time of covid. Away from his family, he was completely ignored by Moyes for a whole year and if the other Czech boys hadn't been at the club, God knows what could have happened to him. Moyes is a petty little man and not a very nice one.

  7. We were fortunate last night & we are also fortunate that it's 18 days until our next Prem match – we cannot continue to defend like we have been versus Arsenal & Brighton without a squad rotation.
If we do, we will firstly drop points directly & we will fatigue the team dropping points in 'easier' matches & undoubtedly scupper our European run.

How we can be in the state we were last night, at home, after the money we've spent versus a team absolutely decimated with injuries, is beyond me.

  8. in what other business would your company provide you with an asset that cost 10s of millions of pounds that you decide not to use because you didn’t want it because it didn’t suit you and which as a result has to be moved on at a considerable loss to the business kherer is not the first time either

  9. wrong wrong wrong they got steidten in cause moyes transfers were poor…if Moyes transfers were good steidten wouldn't be in and Moyes had to use the new boys cause injury's made him and they did so well he couldn't drop them. imo Moyes is slowly seeing the error of his ways and now starting to buy into the new ways. good luck to kehrer and any others that move on .

  10. Moyes loves a swiss arm knife player, and kehrer was that player. Yes he didn't have the Moyes MOT , but the MOT doesn't always work. I would have kept him, but I get the lad wanted to move on and get himself back into the Germany team ahead of the Euros. Good luck to him ,

  11. IMO the squads quality is on Moyes, good and bad. He has had 3 years so no excuses from him about not having depth or quality in the squad. He is guilty of relying and never looking past his first 11 to 13 players.

  12. Moyes wants 8ft tall donkeys as he wants them up front for one of JWP's set pieces as he doesn't know how to coach creative players to play attractive attacking football … the useless old dinosaur

  13. Sorry but the bench was full of players he would never bring on. Cannot see how we have progressed as a team,2 shots on target in 90 minutes at home. Poor season ticket holders will be paying quite a bit per shot next season.

  14. Kehrer seemed a key player for us last season and was one of the most enthusiastic after winning the cup. Seems he should be getting more time. Buying Ing has been the most confusing decision. Moyes for years has seemed fine to not have a true striker so why buy Ings when we have youth in Mubama who needs game time. I wish they'd put out behind the scenes stories about these signings in a book 10 years from now.

  15. Our owners are billionaires therefore if the manager really wanted a player to strengthen our squad they could take the hit and recoup the money later through the club finances 🤔

  16. And Aguerd got hurt in pre season. Kehrer was definitely a panic buy, although to be fair there was a perfect storm of lack of CBs. I get the Kehrer buy, but I certainly do not with Ings.

  17. Moyes post match comments on Cornet: He had a bad injury and was out for five months. He’s just been a little bit unfortunate and tonight he probably could’ve got some minutes. We like Maxi, he’s not really been able to have an opportunity due to what we have in those positions.” absolute 🤡!

  18. How many minutes was he played for?
Only DM could make these choices.
Tim probably thought best thing to do so can but someone else. Would Tim deep down agree that Kehrer is pony…nope

  19. Hiya Gonzo. Couple of points if I may:

    1) Personally I really like/rate Thilo and think it's a real shame he is going. Number of other subscribers in the comments have listed his attributes and I concur with all they have said. It's for those reasons that I find it concerning that Moyes undervalued him as much as he has. If a large number of punters can list the same positives for Thilo then it's confusing how Moyes can overlook all of them simply because he isn't tall enough. The height thing was used to dismiss the signing of Martinez at Man U but I thought he looked great till his injury.

    2) Your point about Moyes not having players in his wider squad that he wants to use is interesting and one he may not have a choice about IF he signs a new deal. I believe any new deal for Moyes will reduce his role to that of a head coach. His historical power and influence at the club will be diluted and will be devolved to Tiny Tim. Under that model (favoured on the continent) the head coach gets presented with players with the expectation of him getting maximum use out of them. No if's or but's. That's his job. Add onto that the KPI element which means if the head coach is not meeting those pre agreed targets he can be sacked with no (or minimal) compensation. None of this sacking em but having to pay em the remainder of their contract nonsense. All a step in the right direction in my opinion but one burning question remains. Will/would Moyes accept such a dilution of his current power base? I genuinely don't think he will but not sure what choice he has frankly.

    Interesting times ahead me thinks.
