My last 16 World Cup predictions! I’ve had a look at the 8 ties and who I think will win and head to the quarters. I reckon Brazil need Antony’s magic to spark their forward line, let me know what you think below…

  1. Im not liking the refs and VAR. Same as they gave Qatar this WC, I see some “rigging” going on.
The semis will be Neymar vs Messi, Ronaldo vs Mbappe.

  2. Antony is the most one footed player I have ever seen. That is why he cannot get a place in the Brazil team. In addition he will not succeed at United.

  3. The only game where I see a strong chance of an upset is Netherlands v US. I give Senegal and Morocco outside chances of beating England and Spain, but a lot of things have to go in their favour. Croatia v Japan is too close to call, but my heart wants Japan.

  4. Thanks for the big ups to Oz in the Argentine game! We could pull something off. Just quietly, how sweet was it to watch Suarez’s tears as he had to swallow the inevitable result. My highlight of the last round.

  5. Nothing Magical about Antony, he did nothing of note yesterday. Martinelli on the other hand was a constant threat to Cameroon on the left wing for large part of the game.
Having watched him played for us and his country in the past few months I now see why Barcelona opted to Buy Raphinha; who was playing for a struggling Leeds United side (at the time) than Antony who just won the league with Ajax, he's simply not good enough for top level football, FACT!

  6. Your predictions have been pretty off so far haha. Denmark and Canada both bottom of their groups. Guess that just shows how unpredictable this World Cup has been. Great to watch.

  7. wow, you lost me.
Argentina, after all the talk, is looking the beast going into round of 16.
to put argentina in upset alert ahead of England who is playing senegal…. lol.
I saw the US midfield outrun english midfield.
    But yea, Argentina… lol.

  8. In the end you picked all the favourites right? I get it, but I dont think it will play out that way, I think there might be a couple of upsets…Morocco being one of them and I think Japan Or South Korea will go though with momentum

  9. Stephen well done on your previous predictions, before. So for now without further a due i disagree with say 2 of yours. Argentina will win there quite comfortably, 2-0 Messi scores 1st knockout world cup goal. Second one call me crazy i don't care, France can be beaten why well the injuries they have suffered will start to tell. Benzema best player in the world links so well with Mbappe similar to Kane and Son or Rashford and Kane. A striking duo that u don't find often, experienced fast, eye for goal (Benzema), plus raw pace, inteligence.Qualities so badly missed!

In addition to this Nkunku, another miss too bright prospect goalscoring wise, not to mention Pogba and Kante. Kante may be a lil older but a talented CDM who makes any team, Pogbas drive, skill, athleticism, attitude, is a huge worry as he has scored or assisted in every tournament he has participated in.

  10. Completely random one but would it ever make sense for United or another club to have an equivalent to a coaching academy, or do we have one already? It's generally quite vague when people mention a current or ex player taking their badges with us and exactly what that entails on our end. Is that a potential piece of the true superclub puzzle we could implement?

I can't imagine it'd be hugely expensive relative to other parts of the infrastructure. I just wonder how powerful a tool it could be to have both a direct eye and guiding hand on potential up and coming coaches, as well as long term connections. Maybe even short term, a coach emerges and goes on to immediately sign for a Championship side, because he's too good for assistant and we're set on our manager for now. So he takes a couple of youth players he's taken a shine to with him on loan, and now even though we don't directly benefit from the coaching per se, we can be a lot more confident in where we re sending players we want to develop. Maybe with enough little niche areas like that adding up it starts to become something really worthwhile.

Can definitely see new owners loving the idea of positioning United as the de facto standard to aim for in producing both on and off the pitch talent. All stuff that feeds into the public consciousness and will grow the club's brand. Nice little bonus for the finance wonks on top!
