USMNT midfielder Luca de la Torre signed a deal with Celta Vigo in La Liga for just over $2 million and I’ll be breaking down how this move will work, what are the pros and cons, and how and where he’ll play for the Spanish club.

  1. Transferred for 1/10th of Tyler Adams, despite outplaying him in qualifications, and getting way more time for his club. Great piece of business by Celta.

  2. He is so underrated. He stands out when he plays with the national team. I think he'll do well, but it would've been better to move after the WC. How do you think an average Dutch team compares to an average MLS team? I'm trying to get your gauge on how the learning curve from Dutch League to Spain compared to an MLS player going to a big 5 league

  3. Averages .8 more tackles
Than Adams per game tho. 😊. 15 more
    Touches per
    Game and he created
    8 big chances and Adams
Created 0. DLT also had a higher ground dual won percentage than Adams as well. He’s our 6 come WC and this move will validate that bc I think Adams will struggle. Just my opinion.

  4. I love seeing LDT move up to a more competitive league, but at the same time I'm not convinced that he's going to get minutes.

My main interest in LDT is that he gets a good teaching coach. He's got mental issues in his game that are holding him back from the very high level of play I think he's capable of. If it was physical issues at his age, this would probably be his ceiling, but since it's mostly just mental issues and his game is already technical in a lot of ways, with good coaching he should be able to go up to another level.

  5. I feel like the Leeds comment is a troll. Yes this is new that Americans get signed by premier league teams. But that ignores the fact we have players at Chelsea, juve, Barca, and Bayern.

  6. Pete, pls, what are we to do about weston…..I’m nervous. Lots of quality in the midfield there now, big money going to multiple guys on the team…..do we need weston to get moved? Or you think we’ll be ok and weston will just progress upward again like he has continued to…

  7. Hard to believe Celta V. got him for 2 mill when Leeds paid a very handsome 24 mill for Tyler Adam’s. I personally believe both are tenacious, fantastic team players who will give maximum effort every time. I think both will succeed personally.

  8. If I could condense LDLT's current strengths into two words, I'm not sure I could think of two words more appropriate than "shuttling midfielder." Like you said, he excels at the things that that position demands: he can drive the ball forward with vertical dribbling, he can shepherd opposing players to the sideline or to congested areas, and he can put in the occasional excellent cross or through ball. That, to me, is 100% the best possible position for him. And as you said, a mid-table La Liga team sounds like the perfect fit in terms of level, play style, competition, and opportunities for development.

  9. Similar to the Adams move in that I absolutely love it. Great league which is stylistically a great fit for LDLT and I think he can excel at that level

  10. LDT is still a half space merchant that doesn't score, isn't consistently goal dangerous, and has few assists. Cost justy the $2M contract all you want for why it's low since he had an out clause and his team got relegated, but he's transfer value was less than someone they paid two and a half times more for. LDT is there for depth only. Maybe he proves his doubters wrong and he earns a consistent starting spot by late fall. Time will tell who's right and wrong, but LDT should remain an offensive only sub to spell MMA or Acosta if he's pressed into starting in the interim at least until the next cycle.

  11. Google and Wikipedia have Luca’s height at 5’10’’ not 5’6’’. I think he is at least 5’9’’ based on side by side puctures with Mckinnie, Adams and Musah. That said he is not likely to become Ronaldo on headers.

  12. You have to love that LDLT just is getting it done and forcing his way into one of the USMNT contributors. First time I saw him I was bagging on him and he shut me up quickly and I turned into a big fan.
