Chelsea fans slam ‘selfish’ Raheem Sterling after he blows massive chance versus Wolves

Chelsea fans have been left furious with Raheem Sterling after he opted to shoot himself instead of squaring the ball for a simple goal against Wolves.

The Blues and Wolves squared off on Christmas Eve, with the Englishman having the chance to nudge Mauricio Pochettino’s side ahead in the first-half. Sterling picked the pocket of Joao Gomes, leaving him clear on goal, with both Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer for support.

However, Sterling opted to take the shot on himself, instead of passing the ball to a team-mate for an open goal, but it was effort that was smothered by Jose Sa. And Blues fans have slammed his selfishness.

“Done with Sterling. That’s one of the most selfish plays I’ve ever seen in my whole entire goddamn life in any f***ing sport. Get him the f*** out,” one fan fumed. While a second said: “He’s one of my all time favourites but I do not miss having to defend Sterling when he does incomprehensibly s*** things!”

“This is why City sold Sterling. Absolutely baffling,” a third replied. And another added: “Raheem Sterling not passing this should be a sackable offence!”

It’s been 28 years since Premier League football was last played on Christmas Eve, but with the holiday falling on a Sunday, the Premier League took the decision to play.

However, it will be a one-off, with the Premier League confirming it won’t happen again next season. A statement read: “In keeping with previous commitments made to clubs to address the congested schedule across Christmas and New Year.

“Arrangements will be made to allow more rest time over three of the festive match rounds, with no club playing within 60 hours of another match,” the League said.

“There will be no fixture on 24 December 2024.”
