I would love Ben Davies to be the 3rd LCB and 3rd LB on our depth chart because then he is only playing in firefighting mode (break in case of emergency style) and then his versatility and professionalism could shine and he could be considered an asset to our squad. The problem is that right now, he’s 2nd on the depth chart in both of those positions so we are actually relying on him on basically a week to week basis. If we get a Tolibo and another LB in the next 2 windows, then he would be in a perfect role. Honestly, Emerson on the other side is a similar story as well.

I think Ben is a good LCB backup, and we should focus on a right sided cb as backup to romero

He's a very reliable and decent option as a backup, very professional as well and gives everything for the badge.
He's not slow either and decent on the ball, reads the game very well and has a good header in him.

The problem with Ben Davies is he doesn’t push the first team players and provide real competition. He is too big a step down from our first choice cbs.

No his lack of pace is a major problem and along with dier they are like the chuckle brothers.🤨

It’s an interesting subject I see no change in his performance or any reason to give him anymore credit than I usually give him. He’s certainly better than people believe him to be. He’s treated unfairly- Ashmatic opinions proves this. Davies has his draw backs and he’s not slow and doesn’t need replacing period. He should remain at the club but you keep him. You upgrade the position (which you’ve done with Udogie and Van der Ven and have Davies to come in when they’re missing. I’m never worried when he plays. His experience is what makes him key in our defense and his attacking play is better but poorly utilized. I would say his reactionary response to attacking players with sublime skill is lacking and his physicality can at times let him get outmuscled by an attacker with more desire – this is a result of Davies trying play safe and a lack of confidence. His turn around or running backwards speed to keep up with an attacker is his main weakness but his running forward speed is actually fast (you witnessed that with his rushing forwards (to our own goal to make a last ditch interception against Newcastle. I’ve never been wrong about a player and I’ve never been wrong about Davies. I’m never worried when he plays I’m more worried that we don’t have strength in depth at that position. It’s not Davies that needs replacing its other defenders such as Dier that need replacing. Davies is the squad player you keep for occasions such as these.what we do need replacing is our midfield we have Maddison but no one of his quality to step in when he’s missing, Kulu’s a good start but not the answer Sarr has a long way to go before becoming a Tottenham great he has energy and the ability to get back this guy is a genius in the making but due to his average attacking game play around the and poor shooting his just a slight step up from Skipp. But in him a believe. He’s gonna be great. But we certainly need to change up that midfield Bissouma as yet isn’t cutting it and despite some of his improved performances or even his best games I’m still unconvinced. He’s no Mousa Dembélé that’s what we need
