It's basically how Ancelotti set up Milan back in the, Inzaghi and Sheva used to push wide in thr 4-1-2-1-2 as well, to hold up the ball while Serginho/Helveg and later Maldini/Cafu made overlapping runs. That's why you had games like the 6-0 victory over Inter in 2000 you had Serginho with 3 assists and 1 goal, and Serginho did that a lot, pity Roberto Carlos basically kept his spot in thr Brazil side with no questions asked.
