I think this is likely some misdirection. Liverpool might be eyeing a higher quality candidate and keeping that more private. I don't think it would be unreasonable for Klopp to get whatever he wants. Sitting at the top of the table, it's not like we're in some hole to dig out of. We're in pole position so 'investing' in a CB at Matip's level, or perhaps a step better, just strengthens our position and raises the probability of winning the league.
