He’s spot on. You can’t say it’s on form but then pick players who aren’t playing for their clubs. Sterling and Ward Prowse not even being in the squad is baffling.

The way English fans slam the most successful manager they've had in decades you would think they were pulling trees when they had the likes of Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney, Terry, Ferdinand, Scholes, Beckham, etc…Argentina had the best player in the world and Tevez, Aguero, Di-Maria for years and couldn't win a single trophy and a team who can only boast of Harry Kane and Kyle Walker as world class players in their position is acting like they're prime Brazil

So bored listening to this. SG criticism is so shallow. Same tired points being made every international break. It's interesting how none of these so-called experts are prepared to be bold and identify which attacking player makes way for Sterling.
Getting boring this now. He is an average midfielder having an ok season. For people who say Southgate picks favourites, he has been in numerous Southgate squads in previous years and obviously didn't make a good enough impact.

I really like JWP but firstly he is not a pivot midfielder and if he played for City, he'd be hitting a higher standard under Pep so thats moot. And there are times when he drifts out of the game. And as much as I like him, who wld he leave out?
I have similar complaints as everyone about Southgate but let's be fair, he can't fit everyone in.
And its not just about form although I know what Southgate said, its about how Southgate sees his squad shaping up, he needs players thet can give him different options.
For the Euros, he knows exactly what Sterling can give him, and these two matches gives Southgate a looksee at different options perhaps.
