  1. As much as Jesse loves the day to day of club management, He would definitely jump on the national job 100%. I think he would be a better option. His style of play translates better with the type of players he would have at the national team than the player profile he had with Leeds.

  2. From CBS Sports Golazo. They TRIED to get him into something but he handled it well. And it's a massive point. Arena had a couple BIG wins. Vs. Portugal in the World-Cup and Mexico in the same World Cup. Even Bob Bradley had one – a win vs. Spain in the Confederations Cup. Not at the same level but still, even Klinsmann broke the mold vs. Ghana and came oh-so-close against Portugal. But Berhalter thus far… it's true, 0-0 vs. England.

I honestly don't believe Berhalter is a terrible manager. I just don't think he's ready for this level and needs the day-to-day and maybe even an assistant role first. But the USSF rubber stamped him.

  3. I've seen the US beat Mexico more times than I can recall since I started watching the international game in 1994. Unless the USMNT beats them at the World Cup, it's not a signature win.

  4. This whole discussion about having a style of play is part of the issue with US soccer imo. Countries that have a style of play, developed that style naturally over the years based on the players they had and how they were developing their youth. It's not something that can be forced.

Gregg wants to be that guy who defines the style of play for America. Hence why he insists on shoving his "system" down the players throats. Even though it isn't very good and clearly doesn't suit them. US Soccer needs to stop trying to force Soccer Culture. Focus on developing good talent and Winning important matches and things like culture and style of play will happen naturally.

  5. ngl dc about the us but the comments by marsch was funny considering when he left rb salzburg (basically the psg of the austrian league) and went to leeds he was awful

  6. A real federation doesn’t hire a guy like Berhalter. A real federation doesn’t bring back a Berhalter. A real federation would let a Berhalter go after he flames out of Copa America next Summer. A real federation would not let Berhalter lead these players to 2026.

    But we have the USSF.

  7. Installing futsal goals on basketball courts in poor neighborhoods is the best investment the USSF could make in developing talent. None of the US Men’s players have a relationship with the ball in the way South American, African, and even European players do because they are coached from the beginning instead of developing ball skills naturally and playing the game for the fun of it.

  8. I’ve been a passionate fan of US soccer for many decades, but in spite of their talent they are boring right now. Not what you want to attract new fans and build toward a WC on home soil.

  9. The USMNT program today is about commercializing the new young players. They threw out the "old" guys (that knew how to win) and focused on the youngsters, that might bring more views and endorsements. Money first, winning second.

  10. We have a guy who isn't a good enough coach for the national team calling out a guy who isn't a good enough coach to manage a high school soccer program. Fun times at USSF.

  11. I blame MLS. Now that they've let these players from the whole region into the league. They are getting better training and the lack of our best athletes playing other sports is starting to catch up. Pulusic is probably the only player on the USMNT in the attack that just looks like he's comfortable amd smooth on the ball.
