Following Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City, social media has been flooded by claims that Jeremy Doku came out on top in his battle with Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, a proper examination of that game, and a look his season to date shows that not only is he defending well, but his new role in the team is making Liverpool a far more dangerous proposition.

The split of people who think he's awful defensively and think he's fine defensively, correlate a lot to who watches Liverpool games and who watches the clipped up highlights when he does anything wrong on Twitter
hes better at MF and ironically always plays there for liverpool
This channel is underrated!explian football tactics in simple terms, Pity that Adam supports Newcastle 😅
He's quite good at defending when he's not playing in defence.
Yeah, TAA is good. I'm still not gonna say he's better of a choice than Maddison in MF for the England squad, tho lol.
Trent is the best passer in the world alongside KDB, that is why putting trent in RB is a waste of his potential.
lol
KLOPP OUT, XABI IN
Very interested to see how TAA, Rice and Bellingham develop as a 3 for England.
After delving (yes delving…ADHD) into numerous videos explaining the tactics managers are now bringing to the Premier League. Yet all these managers are European.
A question or a video on the subject could be asked/made
Why is it any that no English manager has yet to clinch a victory in either the Premier League or at international tournaments like the World Cup or Euros? (English nationality to clarify as Sir Alex almost emphasises this point)
The influx of diverse strategies and approaches from European managers has undeniably reshaped the Premier League's competitive landscape. This brings us to an intriguing point of discussion. Have we wasted so many National teams playing
4-4-2
Brilliant analysis! Thank you
He literally doesn't. He already gets a stupid amount of credit and large swathes of people refuse to concede that he's anything but good defensively.
If he can improve defensively or permanently make the switch to midfield proper then sure, give him the praise he's getting. Until then he's both an immensely talented and immensely flawed player.
Casual fans say he can’t defend. Not saying he’s a top defender but he’s definitely a good defender
The title of this video should be 'Why Alexander-Arnold The Great Deserves WAY More Tip Riders (Because I Ride His Tip Hard)'. You man talk as if people don't know the game.
I wish you were a Liverpool fan honestly 😊
This is so good, again, excellent. You have to love Carra and G Nev and the rest of the pundit class, especially some certain YouTubers effectively saying they know more than Jürgen Klopp. Trent is a once in a generation talent and yet somehow he is overlooked by clowns.
TLDR, most football fans are braindead monkeys who just regurgitate (do you even know what the word means, monkey?) whatever they see on social media.
I still think liverpool need to play a "5"-3-3 with the LB and RB coming into the mid like they do but keep 3 dedicated defenders and have the LB and RB just as back up.
Can we have an analysis of all other prem defenders against, Doku? and their team's result.
I slightly disagree with him here. The reason why he’s less effective in an attacking sense is in my opinion the fact the team is far more balanced and we have more creativity spread around the pitch. We’re not a one trick pony
I don’t think it’s necessarily true to compare this season to last being as Liverpool was so poor, think we should compare to one of their better seasons
Yeah, the Doku thing in particular is very weird, because it's one of the few duels a Liverpool player did quite well for in the first half. I think people had just decided he was going to have a bad game beforehand and ran with it. He's just such a unique player that people who don't understand the game have to simplify it to attacking=good defending=bad, which has never really been the case.
People who dissed Trent are mostly man utd fans or just twitter tw*ts who thinks they know ball
This is bullshit! I'm a Liverpool fan and I was happy with Trent against City but he has been awful and cost us goals in a lot of games, he was awful against Newcastle away he should of been sent off and gave them their goal and against Villa he was at fault for their goal and gave away another big chance they should of scored to go 0-2 up, he was awful against wolves and got run ragged by Neto in the first half and he has a shocking game against Luton. The guy keeps getting called world class and one of the best RBs in world football but he ain't even close! You need consistency to be a top top player and he has no consistency! He has way more bad games than good and if You watched every game You would know that. He constantly gives the ball away in most games then hits one great pass and everyone forgets the 15 bad ones he done before.
Excellent analysis, Adam. I’d be interested in hearing your take on TAA regarding the England team. Would you play him? What position/role?
People are just so obsessed with Trent and Liverpool and want them to fail
The Doku stuff reminds me of when Arsenal fans hyped up Pepe dribbling past Van Dijk a few years ago.. while ignoring Van Dijk actually caught back up to him and Pepe ended up doing nothing.
Same thing with Trent. Liverpool fans dont think he is amazing defensively. He is fine, average and that is all we need him to be given Liverpool's role for him under Klopp. Trent showed him down the outside mostly and that is all I wanted. Doku will give most defenders fits.
No one talks about Roberto Carlos being awful defensively. Marcelo and Dani Alves were average defensively too, but their roles going forward override those things. Cancelo didnt get any criticism until he fell out with Pep too. Countless examples.
Imagine Reece James at Liverpool? No 3 CBs, deeper line and negative coaches to hide behind. Then what?
Great vid anyways. It wont get through to the knuckledraggers though.
He did well against Doku, since Gary Neville has come on our screens with his backwards views of coaching, he's been crying about Trent being bad defensively. It's a myth, like most defenders he has flaws in certain situations and any good attacker at that level should be comfortable taking on full backs one-on-one. As a manager I'd pick him at RB all the time, he's only divisive amongst fans, most coaches I've spoken to on the continent think he's one of the best. A team getting 90+ points 3 times and reaching 3 CL finals in his 7 seasons, that doesn't happen with a big flaw at full back.
Great analysis
Him and mo salah are the reason I like Liverpool to win europa
Superb Analysis 🤌
Someone show this to Rio Ferdinand please
I think he's brilliant. One of three or four world class players England has along with Kane, Bellingham and maybe Rice. But I recognise most people think my opinion is toilet.
The twitter braindead football fans need to watch this videos
trent offer different contribution compare to other fullbacks and that's what made other's fan mad because thier fullback can't do what trent can. His defending maybe not world class but it was not that bad, it's average for me. what made trent special is usually the main playmaker of the team is the midfiedler, but liverpool have A right-back as their main playmaker. this new tactics are build to bring the best of trent. trent are the main man for klopp new era.
I’m afraid I still can’t see it.
