Who should or could replace him?
You can argue for hours about this if you want but it really is this simple:
Keep southgate- zero chance of winning a trophy
Appoint someone else- have at least some chance of winning a trophy

Winning with club teams is very different from Country teams, the manager isn't working with the day after day weeks on end, international football is a few weeks at a timevwith long breaks in between using different players in & out of form.

3 strikes and your out for me Southgate should be gone but the FA wont sack him. 2018 we had an easy route to the semi-final the Croatian game we took the lead and they changed we didnt react. Italy in the Euros we go 1-0 up and we just sat back and everyone could see what was going to happen apart from Southgate. the France game we equalised and we should have gone for the throat but again sat back and let the French get back in it.

Easy to say get rid when there are no great alternatives. Typical 'coming up with the problem but offering no solutions'. Eddie Howe wont leave Newcastle at this point. Jose is pure speculation and would he leave Roma?
Southgate has his faults, though he has proved he can navigate a tournament. Several players have improved since the WC, and maybe, just maybe, their elevation will be enough to take us over the line. V France, which was a close game, the difference was Griezmann. We didn't have a player of his quality to match. Maybe now we do and Southgate + certain players elevation in their game could get it done. Maybe his reluctance to drop Maguire will cost him, maybe his subs will, though with slightly better players, maybe they won't. I dont believe Potter, or Lampard would setup a team any better and navigate a tournament.
Rory tends to forget how bad 2016, 2012, 2010 were, and 2008 we didnt even qualify. And all those managers should have done better with the players at their disposal. Even Sven at the 'golden generation' couldn't get past Quarter Finals. Have to probably go back to 96 and Venables for the last time we had a team that a team delivered anything close to full potential.
At least the players now look like they enjoy playing for England. The current team may be outgrowing him, and maybe 4 tournaments is too many for any manager. If we don't win it, I think then a new voice will probably be needed.
