Bring back Jimmy and Heath you freaking cowards. We need in soccer we trust NOW!!!!
Charlie, you nail it, and if fans can't see Gregg Berghalter's inexperience changing tactics during a game it's on them!
Gregg is arguably the greatest coach US soccer has ever had. His tactical flexibility and system has the boys playing a brilliant style of attacking soccer. This is the man to take the US to the quarter finals of the world cup. But before that he will make a statement by eliminating Argentina at the Copa america.
And that was our A team so imagine if we had our European players what would have happened
They said we don't need two strikers to beat T&T but we didn't score at home until we brought Pepi on…
Maloney is solid – could have been brought in earlier.
gregg is literally the coach because his brother is on the board. he doesnt deserve this job
Again to the point of the argument about the 2 subs vs the 1 at the moment, not even with hindsight it seems VERY obvious that you make the immediate sub to replace a forward. Scally for either Peppy or Balogun. THEN at half-time, you make the sub for Reyna as required but you have a moment to regroup and develop your go-forward tactics. The 'on-the-spot' decision was more about which FORWARD gives you the best chance on counter-attacks and can track back while being able to maintain shape at midfield and your back 4.
It's still downright shocking to me in a way. "Oh, we'll take off the guy in midfield that needs to come off in 3 minutes anyway. Eh, maybe one of the forwards can track back more or something? I don't fkin' know…"
This US team's is not good ,they cannot control the game nobody to score ,we need the same team last year's
Let's talk about the fact that Trinidad was more dangerous in 11 v 10 than US was.
I like how they say Trinidad team not good, but yet they can't beat them. Stop it usa you are not that good, you think you are but thats not the case.
Could it be that Gregggg Berhalter just doesn't know how to manage a National Team? What a thought! Can the guy!
Saying that the US has better players than T&T and still lost the game isn't saying much. And rankings ain't mean sh!t when 2 teams playing.Cuz at the end of the day.The game is played on the day.And yes,the US may have limped thru to the Copa America. But if that austin game would of ended in a draw. The headlines would of been different.Well done to T&T.
Very good points by Charlie Davies! He knows the finer inner workings of the game, tells it like it is, and is not afraid of offending US Soccer.
Trinidad and Tobago is a developing and building team. Anything can happen in football expect the unexpected Trinidad and Tobago is getting stronger simple, a weak team does stay weak reminder that
US soccer and Gregg are happy with result. They are content with being below average in world football .
The copa America and the World Cup the US will be whipping boys . US soccer are content with the US just being at the World Cup , just making it for the World Cup is the only goal they have in their minds . Till the current muppets in US soccer are kicked out , the team will remain mediocre at best .
#BenchBerhaltor why are we surprised. Why can't we invest the money to hire an experienced manager.
You guys are spot on with so many of the points, but the elephant in the room needs to be addressed more directly. After Dest's red card (which was an independent disappointment that he wholly owns), GGG's tactics were terrible. You're talking about the bad decisions, but nobody wants to speak the man's name. They were Gregg's terrible decisions. Make him own those as much as Dest should own his behavior.
We're literally in a situation where every mediocre youth coach would know the correct thing to do is pull one of the forwards to get another right-back on the field. GGG's excuse in his press conference was that Gio was intended to come off at half to manage his minutes. I get that in part. If you have a guy on a minute count and the last 5 minutes of the half are going to be frantic, it does make sense to take him out to avoid something else bad happening, but you have 5 subs. GGG used 3 in the entire game, with one being in stoppage time as you noted. So, basically 2 subs used, after your team had gone down to 10 men and was being forced to work extra hard, in the Caribbean heat and humidity. Are you kidding me?
If it's wise to get Gio out, then make a double sub. Pepi or Balogun for Scally, and a midfielder for Gio. And tell your team to pack it in to get to half. Don't continue to play your defensive line 20 yards from the opponent's defense as they look up to play a ball into the 30 yards of space behind you. Look back at that immediate goal by T&T and freeze the frame at the point of the pass. All the problems being discussed are obvious in that one frozen image. Their right-back has the ball, basically at midfield, but we only have 7 players behind the ball because we have 2 forwards standing 10 yards further up field. We have no presence in midfield, so Ream has stepped forward to close down a free offensive midfielder (someone Maloney would have been on if we made the right subs and had another midfielder in), and CCV is now 1v1 with his mark but with tons of space behind. It's tactical awareness 101. None of this is rocket science and like I said, mediocre coaches at much lower levels know the prescription to these issues. It's just embarrassing at this point that we continue with this guy who is learning on the job, and not doing so very well with all the lessons he's had over the last few years.
And it really just gets worse the more you look at the situation. By the time GGG was wise enough to remove one of the forwards for a midfielder, after already playing 30 minutes down a man with a 2 forward formation and having given up a second goal, he puts in a midfielder who is entirely offensive minded. While a defensive midfielder who starts in the Bundesliga sits on the bench. Unbelievable stuff.
Can we all agree that experiment #2 not to mention #1 didn't work, hasn't worked and I'm pretty sure won't work. When the 99th ranked team knows your biggest weaknesses the whole freaking world of soccer knows it. Please US Soccer open your eyes. We still have time to make the necessary changes.
notwithstanding Dest's poor sportsmanship, the tactics and planning after Beerholder showed how mediocre of a coach he continues to be. Keep Reyna till the half and add to the defense. Anybody with half a brain would do that but I guess Beerholder doesnt even measure up to half🤣
It does not matter the ranking or how many players play in lower division, it all about who want it more. This is another lesson . Go Soca Warriors. 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
Well said Charlie!!
Can we talk about the fact that Aaronson went the full 90
Fire berhalter!!! 🙏🙏🙏
GGG out. What is wrong with USSF? Do they not see what everyone else does?
US is regressing under 2nd tenure of GGG!
I wanna hear from dempsey on this
Coach Chuck, when you gonna leave TV and get those coaching badges!?
How can we get the protest and message to USSF to get Gregg out? It’s becoming unbearable. The horrible away performances in qualifying. Blacklisting Brooks (a WC goal scorer), horrible performances pre- World Cup vs Saudi and Japan. Netherlands game. Away vs Canada. Tactics. In game management, player selection. Etc. Etc. We just literally got the result that knocked us out of the WC in 2017, if that’s not a metaphor, then…….. It’s all been exhausting and I’m beginning to lose passion in the USMNT. It just doesn’t feel the same. We cannot accept that his job is secure not matter what. We cannot accept the mediocrity. Let’s find a way to protest the hell out of this until changes are made.
