while I admire his attitude re he is basically saying he has to keep performing to get picked for england however clearly you dont sadly because the reality is you dont even have to play every week for your club to get picked in the squad or at a very high level ie the great standard of football that is the saudi arabian league🤣 I think its pretty fair to say declan rice is a guaranteed starter for england tho personally unless he is injured its a no brainer really imo 😁

Declan rice's starting position is probably the most secure in the squad aside from Kane. No cdm close to him on that england squad.
Southgate is under pressure to show diversity. So we will see a few white lads bench warming. It's been going on for years. I doubt Rice will be dropped though.

This is the problem that Southgate has caused. We all know that Rice gets in, but Southgate offers no logic to his decision making around squad. So even those who have not a single worry in the world about getting in, are now worried because they know Southgate makes mental decisions and might put Maguire up front and leave Kane out.
Form doesn’t matter and never has under Southgate. He knows who he’s picking for the next 10-15 games already. Plus which subs will come on. Not playing well (or even not playing at all) doesn’t make one bit of difference.
