Yes, move on from Cavallini and Kaye. Especially Kaye. Choiniere and Shaffelburg need to be on the team. Potentially a younger striker too…but, who? Ugbo?
I wanted Choiniere & Shaffelburg too; but he isn't wrong that this team has a lot of chemistry & they were all part of the brotherhood. Getting into the Copa Americas is critical for Canada's team.
Once we're in, Canada can add those players & in 2025 & 2026, begin the full transformation to a younger team.
Patience & experience can often be a good thing.
I will give him a break. The 14 hour trip to Japan with players not getting enough practice time etc… was a very tough gig. Not enough to judge him or the team by.
He is also right that it is often good to pick players from the same winning team (i.e. Vancouver Whitecaps) because they have even better chemistry & they know their set plays.
Team Canada in hockey often did the same because you have so little time to prepare & in those cases, chemistry & knowing each others moves can often can be the difference.
I for one, am hopeful that the team gets back to its winning style again versus Jamaica & keeps improving & transitioning to youth in the march towards the next World cup in 2026.
