Ilkay Gundogan begins his journey to achieve his UEFA Coaching badges, taking a session with the Academy U16’s and passing his knowledge and experience as an elite footballer.

The Manchester City midfielder put our Under-16 squad through their paces at the City Football Academy, where he ran a session alongside Lead Coach Darren Hughes and his assistant, Alan Wright.

Gundogan, who has expressed an interest in embarking on a coaching career once he retires from playing, put on a possession exercise for the youngsters as he passed on his expertise to the next generation of talent at the Club.

“It was fun,” he told mancity.com. “I enjoyed it a lot.

“The boys were very cooperative. They met me for the first time, so it’s more difficult. We have to get to know each other first, but I think it went really well.

“It was fun, I enjoyed it and I’ll definitely come back soon.”

Afterwards, Gundogan added to the experience by taking part in a two-touch competition and crossbar challenge with the squad, to complete what was no doubt a memorable occasion for our Under-16s.
