With striker Nicolas Jackson misfiring, it’s been a disastrous start to the season for Chelsea. But a look at the “underlying numbers” shows that this isn’t just an average team missing a few chances, but one of the best teams in the Premier League on the cusp of having a great season.

  1. People forgetting nkunku (potenitally best player), reece james (captain and best player), chilwell, badiashille (best centre back last season), fofana, chukwuemeka (who looked really good vs west ham), lavia, chalobah have all been injured a long time. Mudryk, broja, jackson, sterling, colwill, gallagher, caicedo all look like they are finding crazy form. Enzo has been so consistent and good in every game he's played. The team is coming together

  2. The problem has been the #10 position with Nkuku's injury. Slotting Enzo there is wrong and finally playing Palmer there has proven this now that they are winning games.

  3. This is a refreshing perspective and speaks to what I’ve been seeing while a lot of fans are moaning. This is a major undertaking the club and Poch have on their hands. The speed of this team is frightening and if the speed of thought starts to align with it, also fueled by more confidence, understanding and predictability, they are really going to hurt some feelings.

  4. Dammit Adam, you beautiful b*astard! Finally someone who shares my optimism. I do not delve into the whole xG myself but the underlying numbers are there and more so, pass the eye test. Brilliantly explained, the casual fan simply looks at the score line every game week, regurgitates the amount of money spent and cue the fits of hysteria. The most important thing which Chelsea have lacked in all these years of chopping and changing managers is a Philosophy and consistent style of play no matter the personnel. Best of all is we've displayed positive patterns of possession and pressing plays without our best eleven yet. Sadly us footy fans suffer from recency bias. I still remember when Klopp succumbed to 7th in his first season and Pep being underwhelming in his, constantly being questioned by the media if their Tiki Taka and Gegen Pressing will hold up in the Prem. Now many years removed, the same media and fans are praising them to no end. Most of all this Chelsea team needs is time. No need to buy experienced players, these players need to gain experience together, under this manager.

  5. In just two weeks, Brighton, Fulham and Burnley were thrashed. 1 – 0, 2 – 0 and 4 – 1 respectively.

Conceding just 1 goal and having a positive goal difference on the table despite being 11th. Great!

  6. After now winning 3 games in a row I have had a big sigh of relief. I feel like we wasted the nottingham forest game. I am way more confident and I feel like we will have a good match against Arsenal. NOT SAYING WE WILL WIN BUT WE WILL PUT UP A FIGHT AND TRY TO WIN

  7. If Chelsea applies 4132 as their formation it really gonna suit everyone…at training they should practice perfect shooting,création of chances and aggressiveness 🥺 let they adapt to a winning mentally and not just possessive mentality…I love you mah Chelsea..just do this 🙏
