Despite a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool, the Hammers showcased their resilience on the pitch. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s astounding 8-0 victory over Sheffield United must have boosted West Ham’s spirits.
Sheffield United’s defense crumbled against Newcastle, highlighting their vulnerability to set-pieces. This weakness bodes well for West Ham, with James Ward-Prowse’s arrival reinvigorating their set-piece prowess, reminiscent of their glory days under David Moyes.
Sheffield United has conceded the most goals from set-pieces this season, while West Ham has room to capitalize further in this area. Players like Nayef Aguerd, Tomas Soucek, and Kurt Zouma are thriving on improved service.
Vladimir Coufal, usually not known for his attacking contributions, has delivered pinpoint crosses leading to goals against top-tier opponents like Liverpool and Manchester City.
David Moyes has favored a 4-1-4-1 formation with a strong midfield presence, but he might shake things up by giving summer signing Mohammed Kudus his first league start, potentially adding more firepower to West Ham’s attack.
As the season progresses, West Ham fans can anticipate more set-piece goals and improved attacking play, thanks to the resurgence of their set-piece threat and the introduction of promising talents like Kudus. Stay tuned for exciting developments from the Hammers!

This is the perfect game to see how Zou copes on the left, he did it with Dawson and we were strong the year. Mavropanos needs to play on the right
We can win games if we score goals, unfortunately, Antonio can not find the net and Ings is less effective in our format. The problem and solution is obvious, ie buy a quality striker in January. This is long overdue. We can not rely only on Bowen and our set pieces.
Two fantastic options the cudgel (Soucek) and the rapier (Kudus). The only question imho is which do you start with? I would be tempted with Kudus to start (instructions to run at opposition) then bring on Soucek for JWP crosses. Now that I have written that, maybe the reverse is better. Glad I'm not the manager 😀
I know soucek is a threat from set pieces, but he doesn't offer much else unfortunately. With Ward-prowses fantastic deliveries, we shouldn't need to rely on just soucek getting on the end of them. I personally would drop soucek to the bench and bring in kudus. If after 75mins we need a scrappy headed goal, soucek is your man
Moyes will find the way to lose this game with his starting team
If the talent killer will bench his most talented player he will lose against the botom team as he did with Man City and Liverpool
stop your hate against Benrahma
I do feel that Soucek is fast becoming that original quality player we bought now he is back out of Rice's shadow. I for one would like to see him start.
D.M will start with Soucek I think against Sheffield United, he will leave Kudus on the bench. Not to sure about that one with Aguerd that’s a tough one to call he could start with Aguerd or Mavropanos but knowing D.M he most likely pick Aguerd.
It does seem that way a bit now I thought the same in the past we would beat the big team and then loose to a smaller team but we seem to loose against the big teams more often and beat the smaller teams more under D.M.
Aguerd ought to be featuring, if we are looking to score and move forward.
Kudus would be my first name on the sheet. He makes the lives of the opposition horrible. He makes them think they can take the ball but he refuses to give it up. After creating confusion he gives a good pass. He is the one to get the free kicks and the corners in the first place. If not the goal chances.
Sadly Kudus and Especially Dinos have zero chance of starting this game today?I hope I’m wrong on this especially Kudus,I have freaks he will get frustrated and want away from, the perils of not being a Moyes choice?People still think Tim and Moyes are chums🤔🤔
There is NO way Kudus should be on the bench
Danny Ings is past his sell by , sad but true . He was brought in as injury cover . Will Aguard be under that level of pressure against Sheffield ? He just had a bad run against top teams , given the way we set up . Midfield ? Bring Kudus on in the second half , let him ease his way in .
Aguerd good in the air ? not the games i have watch not good with physical centre forwards.
Team news out Gonzo no Kudus starting again get Antonio off play Kudus
If things continue like this, Kudus will have a short stay at West ham…Top teams will start chasing him….
Kudus is not a bench player… Didn't he score against Liverpool when he was with Ajax?
Whats the point here, that he needs time to adjust to what exactly?
Keep daunting on his capabilities and confidence… Very soon big clubs will run in for him….Moyes should start playing him else he will start feeling uncomfortable and leave West ham to a bigger club
Soucek for me on this one, we are team of giants, with the best crosser in the league playing against a team that can't defend set pieces.
I also fancy 352 with Ings istead of Antonio!
Both choices, just for this game!
If he starts I’ll go and buy a hat and eat it there’s more chance of me winning the lottery tonight 🏴⚒🏴🤣🤣🤣🤣MOYES OUT NOW
David Moyes must be the only manager who would not start Kudus in a premiership game.
Such a negative manager
Antonio again. If it wasn't for this idiot missing 2 glorious chances against Liverpool.
Moyees pls start Kudoos and win this match at ease🙏
one quick question, how on earth was that not a penalty in the first half, the player moved his arm to the ball and deflected it out of the area with his fore arm, WTF
