Outside of the fact that he comes across as a very nice, knowledgeable and articulate gentleman – he’s a bit of a throwback to yesteryear pugilistic observers such as Oscar Wilde and Ernest Hemingway (hear me out here!!))
Whereas we rightly try to pin a lot of new age, online journalists to the post of ‘journalistic integrity’ via ‘fact’, we shouldn’t forget that there is a different, potentially more insightful and interesting style of journalism that’s born out of real world, lived experience!
It’s called ‘Gonzo Journalism’ and leans more into colourful, linguistic paintings of the then, here and now, rather than the ‘What-iffery’ and the ‘he-said, she-said’ of today’s online boxing media. Worth remembering.
(Plus!) GAD walks a damn hard line of having to get live, fight-night arena/stadium interviews after giving his opinion on other various media outlets. Most get to sit behind their microphones and consider their responses.
