Reminds me of Phil Jones.. Dier is the kind of centre back that a Top centre forward loves to play against cause you know he will take his eyes off you and lose concentration at some point… And hes a bit clumsy.
As a Tottenham Hotspur supporter I can say that I’d rather Eric Dier at CB instead of Davinson Sanchez.
The old World Class debate, very few footballers are world class, lots of very good players but World Class is another level, Eric Dier can be a good player but never world class get a grip.

Dier gets a bad rap, but he has what others dont in that position, the physicality paired with being comfortable on the ball, he could go toe to toe with a lakaku lets say but also fleet of foot enough against a smaller striker… Martins right, he just needs to become more rutheless as a defender, live for the challenge so to speak…. thats a big if…. but thats why Conte said he 'can' not he 'will'
Conte needs a group of players who have been low on confidence playing at their peak for him. He needs them to believe in themselves,,he is being very clever in how he words things to maximise what he has untill he invests in new players. If he came in and said dier, Ali, doherty and the rest are woeful players he would shoot himself in the foot. he needs them playing for him, even if their talents are limited compared to the very best untill he can get the very best. in the mean time one or two of them might surprise some people and develop into elite players…

when you single out a player and say he could be world class, it's hard not to look at that completely individually. Dier himself is definitely not a world class player right now. but lets say that in a couple of years Antonio Conte turns Tottenham into a world-class TEAM, that could be very different. I don't believe Eric dier himself will ever be a world class footballer but I think he has the potential to be a key player in a potentially world class team. what if, and I don't believe this would happen, conte did what he did at Chelsea and Tottenham win the league. all of a sudden Eric Dier becomes a premier league winner, even though right now he is nowhere near being that. I think conte's world class statement is more about his role in the team and the teams ability to challenge with the world class teams.
Everyone said he was a defender; everyone Martin. So, his set up from crosses and technique is under scrutiny. He plays for Spurs and England, so he is a top player. International players have incredible pace? Wow! Blanc. Maguire. Adams. Mertesecker. Terry. Vidic. Blinding pace. Just utterly shallow punditry once again from Keown.

He must be incredible in training, because I've never seen anything on the pitch that's ever made me think he has that level of potential. I'd still have him over Maguire though😂
And now as of May 2022 he's actually pretty good and dedicated, life finds a way lol
What's the point in asking an ex arsenal player? He will never be world class, but he is much better under conte, at least martin didn't slag him off!
