I give my Arsenal player ratings for the 3-1 win against Chelsea in the Premier League.

  1. I think it's now evident that the team had the City game in mind, and now that it's out of the way, we've settled back in. But then again, Chelsea are not having the best of seasons. Let's put in a proper challenge against Newcastle

  2. The changes should already have been made after the Liverpool game. It was then the last 9 games, you do not have the luxury of games to waste while challenging for the title.

  3. If we don’t have Gabriel for Newcastle I sense real trouble. This game flattered us, Chelsea are as crap as it gets right now, they have nothing to play for and are probably the worst team in the league right now. Newcastle on the other hand will skin us for all those stupid mistakes we made. Defensively we really switch off.

  4. I agree mate. It shows we are starting to get a little bit of depth. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Why didn't Arteta try Saka & ESR earlier? I have faith in his decisions and he's never going to get them all right. If he felt Kiwior wasn't quite there yet, who are we to judge that? Maybe he felt putting him out against City could have set him back, feeling responsible for such an important loss. Who knows. Good thing is, we looked comanding again last night. More importantly for me, we held our lead. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger COYG!

  5. To make changes when the title is almost done and dusted. I can understand Mike's reluctance to throw Jacub Kiwor into the fray of a title challenge with practically no Premier League exposure. If you do have a top class centre back to deputize William Saliba, maybe a gamble has to be taken. It is extremely tough in the January transfer window to bring two centre backs in one go. Alternatively, Mikel should have signed a right back after the departure of Cedric Soares to Fulham in the January window. This, not only diversify the risk of deploying two inexperience centre backs playing concurrently in a game upon injuries, but also allow them to have Ben White or Tomiyasu as back up centre backs.

  6. Charles, are you now also trying to push an anti Holding agenda? How was he becoming more and more of an issue. How many actual bad performances has he had since coming in? Partey has had more bad performances than Holding in the past 6 matches yet for some reason even you have jumped onto the Holding scapegoating bandwagon….

  7. No pressure FC..too little too late..it’s in city’s hands and completely out of ours….Arteta out sack him he’s done 4 yrs is long enough all these changes should have happened three or four games ago…..simple…EIE

  8. Love Zinny, but he's poor defensively. As soon as it was 3-0 Tierney should have come on. Impressed with Kiwior. Holding shouldn't see the pitch again.

  9. The Gunners get back to winning ways after 3 draws & a loss. They should've scored at least a couple of more goals today & shouldn't have conceded the goal. But a good victory nevertheless.

  10. Kiwior should have been in the team for the Southampton game.
That would have allowed him to get comfortable and we may have actually won that game.
You wouldn't want his first EPL start to be Man City away.
Arteta's reluctance to make changes has been a recurring theme.
When we are forced to make changes he then expects these players to suddenly perform at the highest level after long periods without playing.
He should be rotating regularly (in appropriate games) to keep both first team and second team at the optimum level.

  11. Very good changes from Arteta. I think you’re right Charles, Toerney should be given a start against Newcastle. Zinchenkos lack of awareness of the runner in behind is worrying, he hasn’t been playing to the levels he’s set. Kiwior looked very composed and has to start against Newcastle. Jorginho also has to be utilised more. Set the tempo very well. Great result, onto Sunday 🔴⚪️

  12. I think Arteta didn't make the change for the city game because he's not played Kiwior enough beforehand. In my view, it's a risk not to rotate a bit more through the season, in case of injury situations. However…

I can understand. There's a plan in place, and it's clear that part of that plan was getting a really solid starting 11-13 players in the squad and gelled. You do that partly by playing them regularly, with consistent tactics that allow the players to perform well – but the risks come from lost performance if there are injuries and form dips. It's worked better than expected this season, but there probably wasn't a plan to build an entire squad capable of winning the league by this point – it's almost impossible, even with Chelsea's money. And I applaud Arsenal for this approach. The January signings were (mostly) done with long-term ambition and squad cohesion in mind, not simply with a view to competing for the League.

  13. Zinny's ball security is a real worry, gives it away with sloppy passes and switches off in defence. Think he needs to be played at fullback only in the right games, rather than by default (otherwise midfield).

  14. I am more concerned about getting Saliba and Saka signed and confirmed then the league now. Keep them and add we go again, lose Saliba or Saka we can’t replace them and we would drop massively

  15. I'm surprised at this. This performance was not actually different from the 5 others before (except City). We blew them away in the first 30 mins but then sat back and if honest everyone was nervous in the last 20mins. The only reason this did not end up the same is that Chelsea were shockingly poor. Even we could not give it away although it looked like we tried!

  16. And Partey gave away a ridiculous free kick when he did come on, luckily lacklustre Chelsea unable to capatalise. Partey worrying me a bit! Should we have scored more….where is our ruthless streak…but we were in complete control, mainly! A bit of a flap from Ramsdale for their goal but he was let down by Zinchenko. Tierney was much better when he came on! But a W…needed befoe N'caslte!!!

  17. So retrospectively and yes in hindsight Arteta picking Holding could have been the biggest mistake of his career. Me I made many myself! It's not over yet.

  18. Agree on Zinchenko…early in the second Chelsea had a break after Saka slipped in their box. Zinchenko so slow coming back Xhaka passed him. Both him and Saka should have been given a break sooner. And who did ESR p*ss off?

  19. Even though Arsenal won 🏆 the match thank God. The Gunners should play ▶️ with confidence and score more goals. Arsenal rocks 🏆 🙏 🤲 🕍 🪨 🎸.
