Grealish is not city level
You can't have rodri play 98% of the time and expect his backup to slot right in with little to no game time. With that said, i don't think phillips can do the job unless he plays more often. City should try to find a backup thats physically more similar to rodri. Phillips or kov aren't dominant enough. Nunes might be able to with time however.
I think Kalvin is trying too hard to prove his quality. He needs to do a Jack Grealish and keep it simple. For me he wasnt the worst player on the field, that honor goes to Rico Lewis. He is too small to be a PL player and cant be very well liked considering that no Man City players ever respond when he gets bullied.
People saying he wasn’t bad are missing the point, it’s not that he wasn’t bad he wasn’t good either. There’s no room for passengers in this squad he doesn’t meet the standard after being given ample opportunity
Jack is awful looks overweight or has put a few pounds on. He's very slow too.
My thing with Phillips is that he can’t or doesn’t sprint. In my opinion his main issue is a fitness issue. He has played so little I think he isn’t used to the speed of the game and that is understandable.
Nunes came on and doubled the speed in that role, Nunes and B.Silva will play in there or Stones like last year in a 3241 but I’m not sure if he’s fit

Where does this myth that Rodri wasn't that good when he first started out at Man City come from? In his debut season he started five matches straight as the single pivot defensive midfielder OVER Fernandinho. Pep already determined in training that he was good enough to compete for Fernandinho's position. Kalvin Phillips has never shown he is capable of that. At all. Keep in mind Rodri did this back in 2019/20 when Fernandinho was in his midfield dominating prime and was considered one of if not the best defensive midfielders in the world.

There is no debate. His play is too slow physically and mentally. He is not dynamic enough. Sits in a pocket, easily covered up, not concise in his passing. The passes that he consistently finishes are backwards. His completion rate going forward is bad.
Rodri is not quick, Bernardo is not quick so that's not enough to say that is what makes him not fit for city
Phillips is absolutely awful send him to the under 15s Nunes and Kovacic much better

I said before we even signed him that he WASN'T a City player and shouldn't be signed, but Pep seemed to be of another opinion …. all these months later though I still don't see what Pep saw in him …. City need players who are either the equal, or are better than we already have, and i don't see either in Kelvin Phillips …. Fernadinho was far better, and more reliable, and he was 36!
Phillips is nowhere close to City level. He is a bottom-half kind of player. Txiki and Pep should accept that and try to move him on.
100% agree before anyone can judge him he has to be played in a high profile game with all our best players….then you can judge him….playing with youngsters and fringe players you aren't getting a clear vue of what he can or can't do, there is a difference between looking up and seeing Gomez on the wing or seeing Foden/Doku or seeing Haaland making a run up front or seeing Alvarez kind of playing up front but also actually dropping quite deep. Seems simple to me. At the moment he's being judged on a few minutes at the end of a game and playing 90 minutes as part of a makeshift team

Loosing the ball in critical area is crucial, if his mates don't take care of the ball he lost there's a goal for an awake attacker. Fifteen times sounds scary… Jesus would easily score.

He made some bad passes but made some great passes and broke up play defensively. He still hasn't played Nowhere near enough to be given flak. He gets no playing time with the first team either. That team yesterday was TERRIBLE. Grealish did literally NOTHING for 90mins might as well been playing 10v11, 100mil for a winger who plays scared and shows his a$$ outside of football 🤦

Kalvin is not what we wanted as I knew from the first day that is facts. But lets not use him as a scapegoat here!
