      The USMNT will be lucky to reach the quarter finals of the 2026 World Cup. Coaching a National team is very different than coaching a club team. The USSF has no clue how to choose a national team coach.

      To win a world cup you need to win the World Cup in the U23, U21, U19, U17 and the Olympics Gold Medal. To do that you need good coaches. The USSF does not invest in developing good coaches. Members of the USSF would not be able to keep their jobs if the retiring US soccer players become good coaches.

      lol love the optimism of Geoff but he is delusional to think we would win the WC. I would be ecstatic to make the semis. QF is a much more realistic expectation.

      Go back and watch Van Gaal's Netherlands effortlessly take our milk money, and in 4 years you will have your answer of how we just wasted this generation's potential. Or instead, we could take the chance and change things up to possibly improve!

      This group does have the most talent of any American group before them. But, we all know what will hold them back. Until that issue is solved, then we will continue to get what we've always got. Remember the definition of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over expecting different result. I am hoping for the best as these young men deserve it.

      Greg clearly screwed up the cup by telling GIO that he wasn't going to play! Who does that? He took the wind out of his sales. How could he have been so stupid as to say before even one minute was played that gio wasn't starting !! That should disqualify greg forever. dumbest deflating move of all time.

      Filippo, historically, how do you think past USMNT coaches would fare coaching the current USMNT players as compared to Berhalter? I'm especially curious as to whether you think Klinsmann's coaching style, which didn't seem to work so well at the time, would have worked better with our current roster of players.

      I feel like it’s a big mistake to be counting on the stars aligning for the USA in Copa America and World Cup, because what happens if they don’t and we just lose badly. We don’t have what it is necessary to win a World Cup because what are we going to do if we face teams like Uruguay, the Netherlands, France, or Germany. I feel like the expectations are being set too high and I know we have a very good chance of losing games like that. I think it would be better to set it at quarter finals or even round of 16 now there’s a round of 32. It’s unrealistic to be counting on an upset like beating France or Brazil or Argentina. I would love to see the USA in the semifinals, but I know it’s highly unlikely for that to happen in 2026. And in Copa America, we aren’t beating Argentina or Brazil because we wouldn’t be able to contain players like Messi and Alvarez or Vini Jr and Jesus. I simply don’t think we have the quality or the planning to pull off an upset like that. I hope I am wrong and that we are able to pull off an upset, I am not counting on it happening and I won’t be surprised if lose while playing poorly.

      I think a deep run- playing great football in 26 could be pivotal in projecting us upward to the next level of a legit contender. We definitely ain’t there yet- even at home.

      Most of the world still hasn’t caught on to the fact USA even play football let alone getting pretty decent at it. Europe- especially England would absolutely melt down- lose their $#!t if we were to win a World Cup. It would take a massive hot streak and a few miracles to happen but- forget the pure bliss of our home winning a Cup- just being the ultimate most magnificent troll in the history of all trolls would be puuuure gold. In the name of baby Jesus Ferreira 🙏😂

      Soccer in this country is definitely on the rise. In my high school soccer tryouts there was as many soccer players trying out as there was in football and basketball.

      I'm glad they did not bring Berhalter back for the Nations League because we would NOT have seen Geo in the middle, and how good this team can play. Now Gregg has a standard of play that he needs to have this team live up to. Because if we suddenly suck with GGG at the helm and we've seen the team play really well, that says something.

      This was a fun interview to watch. As for Geoff's "optimism" at the end, I understand that as an underdog you first have to BELIEVE you can win to even have a chance, but that's not enough, wanting to win is not enough. If you aren't good enough to do anything in that matchup, you're still gonna lose. He needs to get real, we're still not good enough, even now.

      6:04 Why? – It didn't really matter. Assistant to the assistant was the manager – and most of the team except for Turner were 4th stringers. Nobody from that roster stood a chance of breaking through into the first team. I remember everyone trying to justify the selections. Veteran leadership, courtesy call ups, looking for depth in said position, and experience in tournaments etc…
      US Soccer just said fuck it for that one.

      Hello ! I’m French and would like to add something. I find interesting all the similarities with 1998 when we won our first WC :
      – we were also playing at home
      – we were far from being favorites, we didn’t even qualify for WC 94 (national tragedy).
      – the coach Aimé Jacquet were HEAVILY criticized by the media and a good amount of the fans despite his good performance at the Euro 96 (France went to semi finals). He was considered too old school, too defensive oriented and boring. He made very tough choices like stop calling legendary players Papin, Cantona and Ginola (for different reasons for each), chose to bench the legendary goalkeeper Lama who was starter at Euro 96. He was clearly unpopular.

      Of course when you look at French roster at that time you will not be surprised they went all the way. Zidane, Deschamps, Thuram, Desailly, Lizarazu, Barthez, Djorkaeff were at their prime but Henry, Vieira, Trezeguet and Pires were just promising youngsters. It was a good team but they became legends only after that competition (and then by winning Euro 00 and going to the final in 06). It was a VERY long process.
      So yeah it may be difficult to compare with USMNT current potential. But 2026 is still very far !

      I personally don’t understand why GGG is so much criticized. I know USA most powerful strengths are ambition and optimism and why you are so dominant in other sports. But what it’s so beautiful and exciting in soccer is its diversity. Of course USA are improving but so do Japan, Marocco, Algeria, Senegal, Hungary for example. USMNT, in my opinion, has done a good WC, not great but what did you really expect against Netherlands ? USMNT were at their current level and did their best and learned. Of course you have the best generation of your history but it doesn’t mean it is the best you will ever have ! 2026 may only be a step like Cam said and who knows ?
      Again France 98… 😊

      Throwing out Zidane as a potential Berhalter replacement made me laugh. I'm just imagining him trying to coach in broken Spanglish and having the Hispanic players translate lol
