Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate continues to select out of form players such as Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson. Meanwhile exceptional players such as Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane are played out of position.
This is the best crop of talent England have had in years, Southgate needs to find a way of unlocking the creativity of players like James Maddison and Phil Foden.

The squad, like the fans, must know it's pathetic & unfair to keeping picking Maguire, Henderson, Phillips, etc. That probably partly explains last night's stale performance.

It's all about opinions, but for me Bobby Robson was easily second best England manager. IMHO, Southgate is carried by his players, which is another reason he should be picking the most in-form ones, which by inference means they should at least be playing for their clubs.
Henderson, maguire and phillips should not have even be in conversations in the board meeting for the team sheet let alone the team sheet itself theres easily 6 or 7 players in each of their positions that can do a much better job than them rn
Bellingham can play a 10, but his trad and imo best position is an 8 box to box. That's how he played at Dortmund.

A younger Henderson would probably complement Rice and Bellingham well, but not a 33yo Henderson in semi-retirement.

Never seen such a level of nepotism in the international game, it's got to a point now that's beyond ridiculous. Henderson and Maguire have no right to be in this team and their inclusion destablises the entire team by forcing Southgate to play players out of position. He does need to be sacked, we're on our way to wasting another golden generation of talent whilst playing the most negative sideways football somewhat similar to Burnley trying to avoid relegation.
I'll come across as a JWP fanboy but I thought the final against Italy, he was the one way we'd go on to win it. After sitting back and conceding we clearly weren't going to score from open play, put the cheat code on and we might have nicked it.
Fast forward to now and you can't tell me a midfield trio of Bellingham, Ward-Prowse and Rice wouldn't operate better. Henderson is pretty much picked for his personality. If its that important just take him as part of the "coaching staff" next year.
Can't remember who said it but they pointed out yesterday that we had Maddison who typically operates more centrally, Bellingham who wants to attack centrally and Kane who likes to go into the number 10 position, so potentially 3 players all getting in each other's way.
Fast forward to the tournament and I'm sure Henderson, Maguire and Phillips will all be in the squad

Ukraine aint a pushover but i couldnt believe we didnt beat them at least 1-3 England. This is a very talented and young english squad with a few dodgy call ups but those are Southgate trust picks. For me, this England squad can Win something major i know it but we cant be playing like that against team we should be beating.
I lost interest in international football after 1996. Didn't even watch any of the world cup last year. It's so boring watching England qualify for another tournament they're gonna fail in.

Modric and Kroos have hardly played this season. Valverde, Camavinga and Tchoumeni have played with Jude in a diamond.
The whole tactical plan was to set up in a 3-2-5 in possession with Walker have licence to push for when appropriate. Pretty much how most top teams set up. Maddison and Bellingham in the half spaces and Saka and Chigwell holding the width. Also, teams like City, Arsenal, Spurs DONT play with freedom. It’s actually the opposite. They have very specific rules as to where and when they must occupy certain zones based on where the ball is, where their team mates are and where the opponents are positioned. One of the rules being you can’t have more than 3 players on the same vertical line or more than 2 on the same horizontal line (Positional play). It’s an extremely structured way of play. Not just players expressing themselves. Rice alluded to this in his interview with Rio Ferdinand.

By the way, you are spot on about Sareth Gouthgate. Should have played 4 1 4 1. Should never have selected Maguire, Hendo and Phillps in the squad. Played Maddison and Bellingham out of position and both of them showed how unhappy they were by fouling and getting carded. Both had to be subsrituted.
Bringing on Rashford for Maddison? What's wrong with Grealish? Didn't fancy TAA for Hendo, despie our woeful lack of creativity, preferred to bring on Gallagher for Jude? Brought on Foden too late, not entirely sure where he was told to play, certainly wasn't where Saka had been playing? No wide player took on a full back until the last ten minutes.
Very disappointing.
Plus it is definitely less enjoyable with no West Ham players involved.
