England capable of winning World Cup according to Iran's Queiroz

Iran head coach Carlos Quieroz said England are “candidates” to win the World Cup, a day before the former Manchester United assistant manager’s current side take on the ‘Three Lions’ in their opening game of the 2022 finals.

Manager Gareth Southgate led England to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and into the final of Euro 2020, setting a high bar for the current side to try and clear in Qatar.

However, Quieroz believes this is the most competitive England team he has seen since 1966, when the country won the World Cup for the first – and to date only – time.
