Croatia trained in Rotterdam on Tuesday, on the eve of their UEFA Nations League semi-final against the Netherlands.
The winners will return to the city for Sunday’s final, with either 2021 runners-up Spain or Euro 2020 champions Italy providing the opposition.
Zlatko Dalic’s Croatia finished third at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, knocking out favourites Brazil along the way.
The nation has never won a major tournament though and the next few days might represent the last chance for the likes of Luka Modric, Domagoj Vida and Ivan Perisic – who have almost 400 caps between them – to get their hands on international silverware.
Dalic is expected to field their familiar midfield trio of Modric, Mateo Kovacic and Marcelo Brozovic against the Dutch, but influential defender Josko Gvardiol has been ruled out by a stomach injury.
The Netherlands have a strong recent home record, with eight wins and a draw in their last nine competitive outings and they reached the final of the inaugural Nations League competition in 2019, where they lost 1-0 to Portugal in Porto.
