Adam Crafton, one of the two journalists that conducted The Athletic’s interview with Jordan Henderson, spoke to Sky Sports News about his discussion with the former Liverpool captain.

Jordan Henderson revealed money was not the “sole reason” behind his move to Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia this summer.

The former Liverpool captain was widely criticised for the move due to the country’s conflicting position on LGBTQ+ rights.

Speaking to The Athletic, Henderson said: “People will see this club come with loads of money and he’s just gone, ‘Yeah, I’m going’. When, in reality, that just wasn’t the case at all.

  1. I mean its not like our armed forces, doctors, engineers , accountants don't work there in the thousands and haven't for decades. one footballer goes and its hell breaks loose…Bunch of ppl r just holding football to a whole different standard. .Say no to all their money in our industry's, banks, housing everywhere…its like arabs shouldn't kick a ball…why do our leagues hire players from these regions or show our football at all… just a bunch of donuts in the media are just crying for relevance…

  2. Henderson's no worse, in fact he's still better, than 99.9% of our MP's.
He's not lied by saying he's going to be doing this and that and in the end doing SFA.
He's not stolen from the public in any expenses scam.
At worse, he's just narcissistic, ironic and made a complete mockery of his previous support of the _"Rainbow people".
He spoke out in support of the "Rainbow People" and wore their rainbow tat. Then later on, someone came along and offered him a real crap load of money that no one else watching this video would ever have refused. Unless they had an IQ under 10 or were from those aforementioned "Rainbow People". And even then, a "Rainbow Person" would have to seriously think about not taking the offer.
However. If he'd been an MP being offered that amount of money, he'd have ferreted it away to some obscure offshore bank account and not mentioned it to anyone or made account of having even earned it.

  3. Henderson stated that he wants to grow the game over there. Ahh right….he could help grow the game in many other countries but chose to do it in a country where gay people would not be allowed to watch, play or participate in the game in any form….the very people you allegedly support Jordan….

  4. it's his career so doesn't have to justify the move….he has done nothing wrong this move isn't a story….criticise SA for their stance on homosexuality not Henderson for wanting a new challenge

  5. Holding the work (culture) for an answer and neglecting religion is a sneaky journalistic move to mislead the ignorants but it wouldn’t slide by any smart person.

  6. He was bought and paid for, that's it. And now he has to live with it. Your moral and ethical positions don't mean a thing , until they are tested. But I will say this (well, actually Marc Marion said it); it's easy to maintain your integrity when no one is offering to buy it.

  7. Sky sports last ditch effort to guilt trip players moving to another footballing league… step 1 Manchester buys maguire for 80mill and ruins epl transfer market. Step 2 Manchester scapeG.O.A.T ronaldo and ruin epl market further as he single handedly opens Saudi league gates. Step 3 makes guilt trip narrative that footballers going to Saudi are selling out.

Fans: step 1 make video showcasing how framing agendas and scapegoating players to save club/club owner reputation from biased punditry like sky sports can be damaging to the game.

  8. No one have the right to interfere in someone life, Hendo work & earn his money legally, so everyone should keep quiet and focus on there life, he try to respect other when clearly they don’t respect his privacy & life , what a joke

  9. He just needs to come to terms that he's not better than anyone else. Every player has moved there for the money and that's completely fine. Disguising it as some kind of missionary endeavour is just daft.

  10. Money talks! He doesn’t care about LGBTQ+-~% like 99% of people that push that stuff. For example companies that change their LinkedIn picture to a rainbow flag or post something about it they don’t care! 😂😂

  11. Grass isn't always greener on the other side, but all he could see was $$$ sign. If he was so against the system then why did he go there, was only for money.

  12. It’s their country. We’ve turned Britain into a basket case. Now we want to tell Saudi how to run theirs. There is no end to our arrogance. Key take out: if you’re not gay+ yourself stay well away from lgbtq because if you falter, they’ll go after you

  13. You people are comical. You dismiss a whole.culture in preference of your myopic view. Their culture, lifestyle and law does not tolerate LGBT. What is so difficult to understand in that. You can not impose your lifestyle on anothe nation. Their constitution has it as a crime in their country, why can you not accept that? It is their country. it is not for outsiders to impose a particular will.

  14. Justify what??? He can do whatever he wants. Hes won it all with his club in the prem and hes taking the money. All you do-gooders would have taken the money too. Shut it.
