Rui Pedro dos Santos Patrício (port. Rui Pedro dos Santos Patrício; born February 15, 1988, Marrazes, Portugal) is a Portuguese footballer, goalkeeper of the Roma club and the Portuguese national team. European Champion 2016.

Sporting
In early childhood, Patricio played as a striker. After some time, the boy, who was already playing as a goalkeeper, was noticed by the scout of Sporting Lisbon, who invited Rui to the youth academy.

On November 19, 2006, Patricio made his debut in the Portuguese championship in the match against Maritimo (1: 0). Rui deflected a penalty 15 minutes before the end of the game. This match was the only one of the season for the goalkeeper.

Before the start of the next season, the team left the long-term first number Ricardo Pereira. Patricio was able to win the competition against veteran Tiago and Serbian newcomer Vladimir Stojkovic, and became the main goalkeeper of the team. On 27 November 2007, Rui played his first match in the UEFA Champions League, appearing on the field in the fifth round of the group stage away match against Manchester United (1-2).

Sporting won the Portuguese Cup this season and finished second in the championship. Patricio made 28 appearances and was named Portuguese League Young Player of the Year in January.

In the offseason, the Italian grand “Inter” became interested in the young goalkeeper, but the transfer did not take place. On 16 August 2008, Rui took part in the Portuguese Super Cup match against Porto. Patricio was able to reflect the penalty from Lucio Gonzalez. The match ended with the victory of Sporting with a score of 2: 0.

In the 2008/2009 season, Patricio took part in 33 matches, becoming the best young player in the championship. Rui played in 51 matches the following season, conceding 55 goals. In the 2010/11 season, Patricio remained the main goalkeeper of the team, despite the arrival of experienced German Timo Hildebrand.

On 24 October 2016, Rui was one of 30 players nominated for the 2016 Ballon d’Or, along with fellow Portugal nationals Pepe and Cristiano Ronaldo. On 18 February 2017, he took part in his 400th game for Sporting, becoming the Man of the Match at home with Rio Avi (1-0).

Wolverhampton
In the summer of 2018, Patricio terminated his contract with Sporting and, as a free agent, moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers, England, signing a 4-year contract.

Patriciu chose to wear number 11 with the Wolves, rather than the usual number 1 for goalkeepers, in honor of Karl Ikeme, who had just retired from treatment for acute leukemia. On 11 August 2018, Patricio made his English Premier League debut at home against Everton. He played nine clean sheets this season – this is the Volkov club record.

“Roma”
In July 2021, Patricio moved to the Italian Roma, signing a 3-year contract. The transfer amount was 11.5 million euros excluding bonuses. In the new club, the Portuguese goalkeeper took the 1st number.
