What I love most about this "F… Croatia" pseudo scandal, is that Herdman hasn't apologized for it. He's admitted to saying it, he's explained why and the context in which it was said; but in no way has he walked it back, and I couldn't be happier that he's stuck to his guns. In a world were it has become easier to not speak-up for fear of offending, or half-hearted, insincere, forced apologies, this is a breeze of fresh air. I don't mean that as some sort of Anti-Woke comment, but honestly, this is a tempest in a teapot.
Herdman isn't the first coach/athlete to say something of the sort, we all know worse things are said on the pitch in the heat of battle, he just happened to be honest about having said it. Anyone that has ever laced up the skates, stepped on the hard court, or had a kick-about on a Beer league team, understands that those type of comments stay on the pitch/ice/ court. Ultimately it boils down to the golden rule for the new millennium; "Just because you're offended, it doesn't mean you're right."
Playing well and loosing it's not an strategy to win the world cup. Italy has won 4 world cups playing flat, defensive and counterattack. Brazil has lost world cups playing the best , 1982 for exemple. It shows that Canada is new to this type of tournament and the offense from Croatia does not come fron woke culture sensitive, this people suffered war in the 90's and have reach the semi finals a few times. Even if Croatia is not the same team it was in 2018 it is still superior to Canada. Definition on the Canadian side was a cartoon for a level of WC. I am sorry but it is the truth. I hope they can at least get a tie with them. I will super happy if they win, but most likely Croatia will win 3 nill.
