  1. Herdman is leaving a sinking ship but a good team of players ! Not many proven coaches would take on the TFC job ! TFC can’t get worse ! I’m a 4 4 2 guy though !

  2. Herdman will fail if Manning doesnt leave during the offseason, Manning is a cancer, and it could be the best coach in Europe, no one will be able to steer TFC in a positive manner if Manning is still present

  3. I'll be honest: in spite of the rivalry I don't hate TFC but as a Canada-Montréal-Ottawa fan, in that order, to paraphrase Bale, I do think that it does show a certain callousness in regard to Canadian Soccer as a whole from TFC. With MLSE's money I am sure they had other options and to choose the one that they had to know would create a second mess in our national program in top of the financial program….

I don't know, that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don't blame him for taking it but I do blame TFC for offering it in the first place.

In term of replacement, I do think that the one I keep hearing online need to die quickly: as much as I respect Smyrniotis (if he had turned out to be fluent I would have been 100% with him at Impact) he simply hasn't coached at a level sufficient for a player to be considered for CANMNT these days. Hell, he hasn't even beaten such a team once! And that isn't even getting to how a coach so deeply identified with the CPL at this point would play both in the room and online with the labor dispute. This is just a recipe for a situation where he risks being deemed the ''CPL coach'' by both the players and a good chunk of the fanbase, which would be bad for everyone (CANMNT, CSA, Smyrniotis and CPL) involved IMO unless things click almost instantly and go very well.

Smyrniotis in the future at some point? Sure, but not now.

It's out of the box but I'd go with Hugo Perez if it was my call. He did a ton with a limited player pool, he is good at recruiting foreign national, know CONCACAF very welll, is someone we could probably still pay him more then El Salvador, hasn't been involved with the mess of the labor dispute, and as someone who come from a team whose squad's bread and butter is a league of similar level than the CPL but whose star players come from MLS he'd probably appreciate the value of both leagues for Canadian Soccer. The game in Salvador was tough so players would probably respect him at least a bit from the start and, as added bonuses, know the USMNT very well and could conceivably learn French pretty quickly due to how close it is with Spanish.

Granted, he has never coached at that level and hasn't shown he could push a team to the top as opposed to just doing descent with a poor player pool but realistically we can't afford someone who did the former successfully and he hasn't ever had a chance at the later aniway…

Is he a perfect hire? No, of course, but for who we can afford and convince we could do way worse. Moreover, he was actually being considered seriously by many commentators for the USMNT so he is more then just a cheap hire and conceivably could be sensible to an ''we are giving you the chance to show them what you can do with descent players!'' recruitment pitch.

  4. Hopefully he does well with TFC and hopefully the CSA brings in someone that will be able to take the CMNT to the next level. Only time will tell though.

  5. Imagine if the CanMNT hires Bobby Bacala (Bob Bradley for the uninitiated people) as their new coach. That would mean that TFC and Canada traded with each other, with one being a great trade for the team and the other being a horrible trade for the team! 😆😆😆

  6. Honestly this is the best move for Toronto To get a new man like John Hartman that can help this Toronto FC team to be where they gotta be And next season I think Toronto might be in the playoffs
