I think Maguire is symptomatic of an overall recruitment issue that seems to persist at United. You look at City, Liverpool and now Arsenal. These are clubs that have a very strict player profile that they follow when signing players, both in terms of hard skills and personality and these profiles exist to help with overall long term squad planning.
United haven’t acted like that in a very long time. They seem to happily throw money at the newest hyped up player who’s just come off a great season and have no further idea beyond that. They’ve been gambling with their squad building for too long and Maguire is a symptom of that.

I think people are harsh on maguire if you look at some of his performances this season he has played well. His worst performances were when he had mcrominay and fred in front of him offering zero protection but when he had a decent midfield in front of him he played class for example against Everton people say he can’t play out from the back but he carries the ball well and his long range distrubition is good in that game hit a few class passes through to Antony. And if you notice that varane and Martinez play significantly worse when Casemiro is out and fred or mcrominay are in front of them. Not saying maguires world class but people are harsh

Unfortunately he's done what we all knew he would do, refused a move that would guarantee him first team football to sit in our reserves hoping for an injury of our better players. When a career long left back is taking your place in central defence, then being stripped of the captaincy & left on the bench should have been enough of a hint it's time to go. But Harry being Harry, he thinks he deserves unlimited chances to show he's not as bad as everyone knows he really is.
