      I've so missed Simon's wise opinions, get well soon mate, on Southgate I'll never forget how furious I was the night we lost the Euros final to Italy, because Southgate's inept tactics lost us the trophy, the FA love him, he's a yes man and they'll never sack him.

      I would love to know why the England National team would play it's best players, have some of the best facilities, best infrastructure, best coaching system… But then so keenly hire a man who miles and miles off being the best manager available.

      You wouldn't find top companies hiring top employees in their fields, only to employ a CEO with little experience, knowledge, or anything else and then hope for the best.

      I don't know how hiring Southgate was ever going to win England a trophy.

      We’ve had all those things in the past though Simon and we’ve been shite! “Great” managers, “great players” and dross tournaments. Southgate was the tonic this team needed. It wasn’t a team, and has rarely looked like a team up until Southgate took over. Yes, he’s got some things wrong and it’s always easier with hindsight but let’s not forget when he took over, nobody was taking about that England team with any optimism until he made it all click. He’s so close in my opinion so let’s keep the momentum. That’s what we have, momentum!

      Simon is right, when the going gets tough ,,Southgate bottles it, no other way to describe his management skills,, absolutely shocking losing to Mancini and his depleted squad, in the final at Wembley,, Outrageous, that he will do the same thing again,,, too stubborn is Gareth.

      Not starting Saka in the Euro final was scandelous. He looked at some dopey social media campaign to get Mount playing wide right rather than one of the players of the tournament, that when he finally came on turned the game but Garth left it far to late. Never will be good enough, this team is the true "golden generation" Southgate failing them!

      hell do the exact same thing next summer Maguire will be there, Henderson probably too Shaw, Philips etc and will wonder why they get done in the quarters again against one of the big boys. Theres players who just won the 21s some of them like Colwill should be starting. 3-4-3 will win you nothing especially with 2 holding midfielders in front of the back 3 just because Maguire cant defend 1 v 1 or play in a 2

      Simon makes the obvious point that Southgate hasn't won a major tournament as England manager but that goes for all managers since Alf Ramsey, including managers who he would have called winners before going into the job, like Fabio Capello.

      Let's just remember that the manager who won the world cup wasn't even experienced, let alone being a proven winner showing that it's the players who win the World Cup, rather than some genius off the field, who makes inspirational substitutions to change games
