  1. I feel pretty safe knowing that BOTH guys can get the job done, at any stage. With that said, I would like to see Acuña start against Saudi Arabia, I think he could be key to open whatever defensive lock they put up. In general, I do see Tagliafico as a more solid player (or at least, left back), and now that he's in good form, I think he would be the first choice in the other two games.
And as for the trivia, I think it was Nico Gonzalez moving back to play left back. Remember that Nico has played every position on the left flank over his career (I think he started as a left back, actually), so it wasn't really a new position for him.

  2. I am really torn on this. Both are good players, although Acuna is the one with more class IMO! Good headache to have. Both should be given opportunities during group stage, and whoever plays better should play in the knockout stage.

  3. Slightly off topic comment, we have so many players with lack of playing time due late recovery. How fit would they be is a question! Sacrificing 1 to 2 slots by far is understandable but almost in every single position is somehow scary. Straight to the point, Garancho who I wasn’t really supporting his inclusion to the Squad proved me and everyone else wrong. The boy is in top physical and mental form in vital position that we lack fully fit candidates in. I know nico is an essential part, but his recently recovered and hasn’t been playing ( his form might be in doubt), therefore, I’d take Garnacho without a doubt, playing in epl and eauropa league against top European candidates and convincing, makes him logically better then Nico Gonzalez at the this stage. On the others hand Acuña isn’t fully fit, so having Garancho with his pace and physical strength would be an added value to cover Acuña’s spot as always. He’s good I. Tracking back and recovering the ball. Whit that being said and lack of training time given ahead of the World Cup all these names are a doubt in being at their form ( Paredes, Nico Gonzalez, Palacios, Foyth, Di María and Dybala!) I really home they washout the doubt and stand up for it.

  4. If you have followed Argentina long enough, you will know that if Acuna is fit, he will be used for stronger attack and Tagliafico for better defence. It all come down to tactical need/ player fitness/ suspension etc. However, with Lo Celso unavailable, it is possible that Acuna will be used in Lo Celso's place. This happened before in early Scaloni era, back when our midfield trio was not confirmed (De Paul and Paredes always there since the first game under Scaloni; while others like Acuna or Ocampos etc has been tried). Then both of them will play (LB and LCM), and Foyth is the sub (not sure if Foyth can play LB?)

Anyway, I wish all our players good health going into the World Cup. Vamos Argentina!!

  5. Great video idea! One thing; as a fantasy manager who wants to fill their team with Argentina players, it would be very helpful to also hear which players Scaloni is likely to prefer 🙂

  6. I think Argentina should fully train for three formations – one for the group stage, another for the knockout, and last one, with Messi and Dybala together, for the final, to throw off all those number crunchers and laptop tacticians.

I remember 2006 world cup, where Argentina looked invincible until Germany worked out how deal with Riquelme in the QF and the whole team was stifled. This time given the wealth of world class talent for every position, every plan should have an alternative and a back-up..

  7. The balance is perfect, Acuna will suit games where we'd see more of the ball, whereas Tagliafico will suit games against really strong right wingers, they could even play together to double up on someone if we are really struggling down that side

  8. I prefer Acuna everyday than Tagliafico. He is a more attacking threat. He is stronger than Tagliafico. His dribbling and crosses are needed more for Argentina.
