Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has completed his move to Al Ettifaq.

The 33-year-old posted a farewell message to Reds fans on Wednesday, ending a 12-year stay at the club during which he won every major trophy.

Liverpool will receive an initial £12m from the Saudi Pro League club.

A number of parties including Liverpool LGBTQ+ fan group Kop Out and former professional footballer Thomas Hitzlsperger have released statements criticising the move.

Homosexuality is illegal and punishable by death in Saudi Arabia, while the state stands accused of a host of other abuses including placing harsh restrictions on women’s rights and the right to political protest.

“Jordan Henderson is of course free to play for whoever he chooses, but we would urge him to examine Saudi Arabia’s human rights record and be prepared to speak out about human rights violations in the country,” Amnesty’s UK economic affairs director Peter Frankental said last week.

  1. Gerard and Henderson legacy is this: NO ONE will ever believe a Liverpool Captain and/or a player. No matter what ever they support, taking a knee, wearing a ribbon, no matter what – after this, they will NEVER be taken seriously. From this day on, Liverpool is just like any money title hungry club (like Chelsea). Fooled myself for too long, but not anymore.
    😁

  2. Well in a lot of countries, they speak against apartheid regime of Israel and U.K. and west including USA it’s called antisemitism
So unless others can call out apartheid Israel in U.K. without getting law thrown at them till then no one should complain about LGBTQ in other countries.
    Stop the hypocrisy
Israel criminalises Palestinian existence and everyone who speaks against them get law thrown at them. So shhhh
    Different country different rules.

  3. Has it sparked controversy though?? Or is it just radical activists and the MSM? Did anyone really believe these footballers actually care about any of these things? Let this be a cautionary tale to any athlete that it’s best to stay out of sociopolitical issues and just concentrate on your profession.

  4. So players should not go and play where there is discriminatory legislation in place. Fine. How comes there is no pushback when players play in France where a womans veil is openly banned by the legislation. No one bats an eyelid.

  5. What do you expect from these western players or people. Total hypocrisy.

These people only want to deceive you and
Misled you from the right path.

  8. Lgbt gonna pay him 700k per week? Dont think so. Keep pillorying one of the few who stood up for you. Make sure no one will ever support yall again. Get in Hendo. Legend

  9. So now we celebrating and promoting evil? Is that a man wearing makeup and we suppose to take these people seriously? How can you want people to respect you when you don’t respect yourselves 😪

  10. Do me a favour ! The bloke supports your cause, whatever that cause is . This is the financial future and security of his family , which is what this deal is all about. If you belong to the LGBTQ community, this may be important, but if this is not your lifestyle , it’s no big deal . He’s not the only player to go there, and nobody has said anything about them. Jordan probably did what he could whilst in the UK, but this is the Middle East , and it’s their law in their country. I take it that at the next World Cup, in the U.S , I expect various minority groups to forensically study U.S society, to find something to be outraged by, and then they can pour scorn on professional sportsmen for trying to do their job and support their family.

  11. So if you choose to get the biggest contract for your family those LGBTQ groups and the western media will try to cancel you nowadays!!

  12. So glad Hendo isn't being forced to promote BS that he doesn't really believe in. England themselves don't believe in it otherwise they would've taken the yellow card and stood up for what they truly believe in but even they know its all BS lol 😂

  13. Saudi Arabia a Muslim nation and you have no right to enforce your lack of Morals on a nation that has or own religious belief and for as Hendo he will paid a fortune good for him

  14. Trent's loving message means nothing if it's done publicly and wrote by his handlers lol should of been sent privately. Also I don't give a crap about LGBTQ in fact I think it's kind of weird they call themselves a "community" and that man wearing lipstick for attention talks rubbish but I don't like Hendersons fake phoney personality I wish he just came forward and said how he had to say them things and wear those little rainbow things and that he doesn't give a crap about them!

  15. And just hope this stop's footballer's from getting involved in politics especially LGBTQ and BLM. Why not get back to helping people in there community like they used to do not causes that aren't important. Instead of going to see sick kids now they go and see a 34 yr old man who says he's not a man , they are basically supporting men being in women's sport and children aged 8 getting hormone treatment!! Which is abuse!

  16. He put his family’s financial security ahead of his beliefs. He’s not the first to do and certainly won’t be the last. Will anyone stand up for the LGBTQ+ community again and risk missing out on their payday? Or, if they do, will anyone believe them any more?

  17. This is why i admire so many african leaders, its seems democracy is defined by the west..JH doesnt owe you anything so you can be that dissapointing..His simply a human being getting paid to play football.Doesnt understand why such petty things get aired time.

  18. So he doesn't not have the right or choice to make his decision based on what you want..what a joke. He's doing what they expect him to do as a JOB, he doesn't believe in it, if he did he would have avoided it.. we all work for ourselves and family, so lets stop pretending like we are all saints and others are the bad people…look at yourself first then judge!!
A man has to do what a man has to do…GOOD on him!!

All countries have currupt officials, people, corporations, organisations; why are we pretending other counties are soo bad, talk about pandering to the alphabets…Madness! Bunch of crying children..we are all scared to be cancelled!!

  19. Global governments destroy their own citizens regardless of identity politics! Another politically weaponised group 3!tch!n about nothing, to be clear JH goin to another country to play football.
There is a much bigger picture when it comes to crimes against humanity by global national leaders/institutions that is ignored for the sake of politically weaponised groups. Every single man, woman and child should be supported! That includes those we share the planet with!

  20. maybe now people will realise that these rainbow anti-racist armbands, posters, pins etc don't mean anything. you either have morals or you dont.

  21. i don't think playing in arabia is the proplem it's the fact he supported it then gone too arabia that's cause the issue if he had not said anything link to it then maybe their won't be upset with him but sometimes you can't please everyone and henderson has done his support and played a good career at liverpool so i think move is good for him and if he does well in his new club i think the only focus he be having is his family and football
