Mikel Arteta has added yet another signing to his Arsenal squad in the summer transfer window. Jurrien Timber has joined the Premier League runners-up for €40 million from Ajax.
At just 22-years-old, the Dutch defender back brings impressive experience to North London with 15 caps for the Netherlands and 2 Eredivisie titles to his name.
Operating primarily as a centre-back, he can also slot in as a right back. Arsenal already have decent depth in their defence, so JJ Bull is here to ask the question – how does Timber fit into Arteta’s plans for the coming season?

Where's the 'Sensible Transfers' video for Arsenal? Thought they'd be one of the first clubs to look in to over Spurs or Chelsea. If they don't get one then there's no hope clubs like Brighton or Villa would get any analysis, never mind others like Everton or Forest.

I do think that Arteta may be considering Tomi as a Tierney replacement if we can buy another RB.
We have been linked to more even though we bought Timber and this would make sense if White is going to compete/rotate with Saliba for CB. Sell Tierney for £25-30 million and buy Iván Fresneda for a reported £17 million (Release Clause) is between £8-13 million profit. I anticipate Arsenal to activate the 1 year extension (So 2 years left) in Tomi contract and sell him next summer IF he doesn't contribute enough.
This would allow Arsenal to go for a top LB like Theo Hernandez as a big signing.

So personally I see Timber as the right sided zinchenko aswel except he can also defend. People forget that Arteta went for Martinez before he went for Zinny, probably because having worked with Zinny he knew that he is not good defensively. So we might actually see the Tmber Tierney combo a lot more than you would expect, especially in big games. White will be more Saliba's cover than Timber for me

I will say if Saliba or Gabriel are not available White will move from RB to CB and Timber will play at RB instead of CB.

I’m a big fan of Tierney, before Zinchenko moved he was one of the first names on the sheet. It would be a huge shame if he left, especially now they need greater squad depth for the champs league
I normally love these tactical break down video's and tend to think JJ does a good job, but this video was highly disappointing with how sloppy the errors in it were.
