Iran’s football coach Carlos Queiroz faced some difficult questions from the media ahead of his team’s first game of the World Cup against England.

He was asked about whether his players would be able to protest and if he was happy to be representing a nation that restricts the rights of women.

On Monday, Iran’s parliament voted to bring in the death penalty for those protesting for women’s rights. There have been at least 326 deaths in the last two months of protests.

  2. You can dislike the backdrop of the tournament as much as you like but don't pretend you won't be watching it.

You'll be there looking at your screen from the first whistle tomorrow and we all know it.

  3. What sort of questions is that , everything about European and Americans are politics , he is there for football not for political reason ,ask football related question

  4. I am an Iranian. this is not team for Iran. but is team for islamic republic. Iranians who are in mourning today do not support this team. if you score a lot of goals all Iranians will be happy.

  10. That was a clumsy response by the coach! I get it that he is a foreigner in Iran nevertheless a coach representing a brutal regime that it’s in war with its own people. He could have said
No comments and be done with it..

  11. Funny how, US, UK, Saudis, Israelis and generally US Allies never have to answer any political questions or get banned from international competitions, but countries that are not subservient to the IS are always under these pressures!
The righteous indignation of these “journalists” is unbearable!
If you don’t know all the facts and big picture, don’t spew one sided propaganda!

  12. the disgusting racism in the west. the orientalist lens they look at and the moral highground thebtake is disgusting. a country taht bombed a dozen countries in one decade somehow has the gall to act like tbey can speak to iranians this way

  13. Queiroz is awesome! Loved Queiroz's answer to the dimwit sky news "reporter" trying to put words in his mouth. Exposed the sham mass media for useless turds they are.

  14. The same women who this sky news "reporter" is saying are "fighting for women's rights" in Iran are actuality ATTACKING WOMEN– who won't join them in the streets. Reports are flowing in of women being attacked with acid by so called "protestors, their car windows hammered in traffic and of them being hounded in the streets for not joining the "protestors." Will Sky news cover that?? Of course not. It doesn't fit their agenda.
A bunch of mobsters who don't care less about Iranian women, but just want to destroy DO NOT speak for me or the 45 million other Iranian women living in Iran!
