Mason Mount has signed for Manchester United, but 60 million pounds is a lot for a player who doesn’t seem to perfectly replace any member of the Man Utd squad.

Does he play as a 10? Bruno Fernandes has that position locked down.
Could he play as an 8? He’s no Christian Eriksen.
Can he even play on the wing? Rashford might have something to say about that.

So why does Jon Mackenzie think Mason Mount is actually ideal for Manchester United?

  1. @tifo – Please ask mr goal post to check his facts. Mount said in November – "I like to think I'm a traditional midfielder even though I can play a number of roles for the team," said Mount, speaking back in November. "I've always said that I'm best as a No.8 and I've played there ever since I was a young kid.

  2. Unless united are planning to replicate the 3 at the back formation, this transfer is a bust. He's not creative enough to be a 10, not defensively sound enough to be an 8. Great presser, horrible at tracking back. The only position he (and havertz) fit in are those inside forward ones that Tuchel used to play (which he did for good reason). Midfield 3 of casemiro, bruno, mount will struggle MASSIVELY in transitions and once the opposition break their press.

  3. I think he missed the detail that bruno is very efficient at the 8 role and played there a few times last season so a set up of mount 10 and bruno 8 could also be expected

  4. He’d be great in combination with Mason Greenwood. Suppose it needs a test of whether redemption is possible in top level football first.

  5. No question the quality and fit are bang on… but £60m for someone who has 1yr left on his contract & is desperate to come?
It was similar with Casemiro – Madrid were desperate to recoup some money & had too many midfielders after buying Tchouameni & Camavinga. Utd also paid double what Anthony was worth.
    Consistent theme!

  6. Honestly I think it's Bruno who gets shifted deeper into midfield and Mount occupying the attacking midfield role or even the right wing role in the tighter games.

  7. Mason Mount do u know that by wearing the No7 jearsy at United is hard work to keep ur place in tht sqaud?

  8. And Richard Arnold thought, "he's young, he plays for England, and Chelsea are having a desperate fire sale – plus he'd be great for engagement on socials."

  9. Cutting edge sports journalism is taking nearly 20 minutes to say: this guy is good because he can play in a few different positions…
