Joon-Ho Bae (배준호), just turned 19, plays for Daejeon Hana Citizen (대전하나시티즌) being a regular on the B team but starting to get some minutes with the 1st squad, had the chance to show off with the South Korea U20 national team, and show did he put up, being one of the few who played every game and scoring 2 goals and 1 assist.
Comes listed as a AM but was used solely on the left wing, he did play in more inside areas, moving between channels and looking to explore the space behind full back when he had a teamate near the wing. His off the ball was pretty solid, but Bae is such a wizard on the ball, maybe benefited from having weaker opponents, but was relentless and definitly look much more sofisticaded and skillful than his record might suggest.
Classy touch, close control, creativeness, when Bae had the ball, it was impossible to know what he was doing, with an impecable first touch, always orienting to space and impressive composure, he was impossible to challenge, he was so frustrating and demoralizing to defend against and was able to do what he wanted all game long, often taking off going past 2/3 defenders before getting into danger areas and getting the whole defence on him, at times it even felt like he held back, could’ve pushed a little bit further.
His central midfielder roots were definitly present, showcased good passing and vision, likes to perform passes with power and precision which let the team keep high intensity and fast flow and always found good angles even when the teamates were marked, didn’t resort too much to long pass but was definitly able to switch up the play if required.
Physically solid, being 1,80, pretty robust and also fast, showed glimpses of great shooting ability and set piece taking, Bae honestly looks like the perfect offensive machine only thing I did notice was kinda negative was how he held back or slowed down when going into defenders, instead of risking the dribble or trying to gain a foul.
I’m sure he isn’t able to do half of the things back at home, but this footage is testament to how dangerous he can become if he continues progressing like this, I honestly didn’t expect to go into this tournament to see such a complete offensive player with such an entertaining playstyle, I expect big things from this kid.
