Charlie Davies and the Morning Footy Crew react to the CONCACAF Gold Cup where the USMNT beat Trinidad and Tobago with Jesus Ferreira scoring a hat-trick. Will that push him further up the pecking order in the USMNT.

  1. This “anti-MLS” agenda from some “fans” has gotten out of hand. They just hate watching him succeed. It’s sad honestly. First ever US men’s player to score hat tricks in back to back matches and it’s still not good enough for some. And don’t give me the “poor competition” excuse. Players like Donovan and Dempsey scored plenty of goals against the same competition and people didn’t have a problem with it when they played.

  2. He needs to show he can do it against tougher opponents. He's disappeared against the biggest teams when he's gotten his shot. I think that's where most of the hate comes from. That, and the spots he's given are taken from other players who could have taken the opportunities he didn't, like Pepi.

  3. If there's lose ball in the box he'll finish it. Where he lacks is in the ability to create chances. He doesn't have the size to hold off larger quality defenders and he doesn't have the blazing speed to blow by them. He shows potential. He's worth investing in. He still needs to get better. I totally agree with Charlie about him going to Eredivisie or La Liga to grow as a player. The style of play in those leagues suits him. He'll just get bullied off the field in the Premier league.

  4. Ferreira is a Caribbean Pirate. Great at scoring against small Caribbean islands ( St. Kitts total population is 47,000). Too bad he is trash against everyone else!

Now Bergholter is back we will never see a roster without Long, Ferreira and Roldan on it….

  5. Great performances, but all they should do is have him attend the next camp against tougher competition and be considered for the starting 11. Anything more doesn’t consider the level of competition and how good they first team currently is.

  6. I’m still not impressed..when playing actual good opponents, he just disappears, he makes alot of mistakes, poor decisions, poor passes, poor touches..

  7. There is definitely some quality there, but his scoring feels awfully one dimensional. Most his goal in this tourny were the same. Inside the 18, nice little ball control to set up with the one foot, and then the quick pop shot with the other foot. Its a sexy little one, two he has developed. But if thats all he can do, he is easy to shut down. Dangerous goal scorers have various ways they can score. I'm curious how much he could potentially develop if he got to Europe.

  8. He needs to make a move to Europe if he wants to quiet the naysayers (if he cares about that). He’ll always be compared to guys in Europe, especially if Brandon Vasquez can make the move within 6 months. There will always be doubt he can do it on the USMNT if he remains in MLS

  9. I'd say Ferreira has put himself 3rd/4th on the depth chart with Sargent, he's behind Balogun and Pepi currently, he is still young and can hopefully improve in the future, he's not that guy right now, but could improve

  10. He needs to show it against tougher competition.
That doesn't mean he gets opportunities over balogun and pepi with this gold cup performances.
These talking heads just don't get it. Why are they pushing Ferriera instead of hyping balogun pepi and Sargent. It's like they have an agenda. An MLS agenda.

  11. Hes not as good as Bologun… Im not impressed at the teams that he's playing against… Let him score against Mexico or Jamaica and maybe Ill be comvinced… But getting hatricks against people playing in the 3rd and 5th divisions of England just isn't impressive. Bologun's finishing and hold up play however is on the fringe of world class.

  12. Hell no look at the competition. He always does this against Concacaf teams. But against all other teams he his horrible. If we are sending a B or C squad I will gladly take him, but other than that. It’s a big NO

  13. When he proves all of the ridiculous critics wrong, I'll be petty for him since i know he's too focused and classy to say anything.

  14. What more can we ask of Ferreira? Well that's a dumb question, there are currently like 4-5 #9s ahead of him – 1) Balagan who was a top 4 scorer in Ligue 1 last season, 2) Pefok-who helped contribute to his team to a champion's league spot in the Bundesliga (why people overlook him baffles me), 3) Pepi – who was a top 10 striker in the Eredivisie last season. 4) Haji Wright – top 10 high scorer in the Turkish League; scored more goals in the last world cup with less playing time than Jesus. 5) Sargent- one of the top scorers in the championship.
