After a glittering 14-year career representing his country, Steven Gerrard has retired from international duty.
Gerrard made his debut in 2000 in a 2-0 win over Ukraine at Wembley, and the Liverpool captain went on to play 114 times for England, score 21 times and represent the Three Lions at six major tournaments.
Gerrard was captain of the England team 38 times, and was the third most capped player of all time behind Peter Shilton (125) and David Beckham (115). He is joined in the century club by Bobby Moore (108), Ashley Cole (107), Bobby Charlton (106), Frank Lampard (106) and Billy Wright (105).
Gerrard will continue his strong relationship with The Football Association developed during his England career, in a high profile ambassadorial role with the Governing Body.

No matter what people say, he was one of the most complete midfielders England ever had.

HOORAY! About time he hasn't delivered for England in years and there's far better midfielders that deserve to play ahead of him, pity he didn't do it before the World Cup, knew he would have a shocker after he crumbled for liverpool end of season, why do managers continuously play players who are not playing well just because they think they're a big cheese?
Fuck me, I think Steve even on his 38's will play better than many of England's today's players tbh

All the people slagging of gerrard clearly arent decent england fans hes a legend and possibly one of the best players weve ever had but their probably just jelous cunts anyway
Why
legend!
Thank you for everything Stevie, I mean I never liked the English national team but Steve is a legend! At least now he can concentrate on playing for Liverpool!!!!
Gerrard is a lengend
Steve Gerrard, Gerrard. He slipped on his fucking arse. He gave it to Demba Ba. Steve Gerrard, Gerrard
I PLAYED FOOTBALL WITH A 19 YEAR OLD KID YESTERDAY AND HE WOULD RATHER SHOOT AND PLAY FOR HIMSELF THAN BE LIKE XAVI AND INIESTA AND HIS FAV.PLAYER IS GERRARD DUMB ENGLAND
BECKHAM LAMPARD AND GERRARD PUSHED SCHOLES OUT OF TEAM WI GANG MENTALITY AND THEY ENDED UP FAILING FOR ENGLAND
ITS ALL ABOUT CAPS RIGHT
캡틴 제라드의 국대 은퇴라니…
An announcement of which that will hardly send shock waves through the football world. Gerrard was just another tediously predictable failure on the international stage; a player made to look good at club level by imported talent. One of the biggest problems in England is the vulnerability of public perception based on the media definition of “world class” and its misapplication to players like Gerrard.
Steven Gerrards retirement from the England team is nothing more than tumble weed. He was never world class – a fact exposed numerous times at international level. It can only be good for the development of our national side that painfully average players like Gerrard are finally reaching the swan song of their careers and bowing out.
Beckham was better and being a United has nothing do with it.
Maybe he has time to finally learn speaking english now.
hard decision?? its plain and simple your old, England aint winning anything in the near future and you need to keep your body on point for Liverpool for the next few seasons, tbh its probably one of the easiest decisions you've made
Everyone here is showing why the England team fails so much. You's can't put aside club rivalry and support every player. England have made one of the best players that the prem had ever seen look like carrick at international level. They have failed to produce top strikers. Failed to have a manage who can cope with the pressure. And because he was the captain England failed because of him. Good one english fans
ERMM YE COURSE
Someone needs to make a montage of him… Stevie g you legend!
Disappointing exit for him but hopefully England can rebuild and make it out of the group stages next WC. Go strong with liverpool now Stevie G! Onwards and upwards
At 34, it was the right thing to retire from international football. This will benefit Liverpool a whole lot. Gerrard has had a good England career.
Steven the best!!!👌
People keep criticising him but they don't know how it's like to play professional football they just say it
Gerrard is a great captain and a winner. The problem is the English team, i cannot figure out why they underperform with so much talent. The premier is the best league! England's players are better to those of Italy, Costa Rica, and Uruguay and they could not pass the group stage, it is weird.
