He still violated the sanctity of the locker room. No matter what happens in the locker room he will trade it for clout at a leadership conference
Forget the drama, Gregg just isnt a good coach
I cant believe they ghosted Patrick Vieira
Incompetent people in positions of power is not an unfrequent occurrence as an American. Question is though, what dirt does Berhalter have on the USSF?
Vieira's camp just confirmed what the US fanbase already knows, USSF always intended to hire their buddy Berhalter over more qualified candidates interested in the position.
These psychological tests don't seem to measure anything of material value if they ended up with Gregg as the best candidate
"Jim Rome" isn't that the guy who hates soccer?
Greg > Viera!?
They only gave him a 100 m start in a 100 m race. Smells like a sham, walks like a sham, and talks like a sham. Guess what guys. IT'S A SHAM.
SO basically the federation is full of it, and paid one of their boys to rehire another one of their boys and give him a big raise on the way. Well….
USSF doing what USSF does, throw the same solution at every problem. Staying within US small circle refusing to try and expand. For all those Lalas repeaters of course Greg has a great win percentage look at the talent. He’ll they made BJ look like a tactical genius.
The leadership at US Soccer is amateurish. They managed to fritter away a war chest of over $130 Million in the last few years with all the lawsuits and poor decisions on operational funding. It was time to go in a new direction and while GGG met basic expectations I'm not sure that he actually was the difference or it was the significant improvement in the quality of players available to the USMNT. GGG made some major errors of judgement in confidentiality and his handling of Reyna. While I was not crazy about Steve Sampson during his tenure I will forever respect the guy because he kept to himself the reasons why John Harkes was dropped from the US WC team and he took an incredible amount of criticism. Only years later did Wynalda finally reveal the issue of Harkes sleeping with his wife that cause a uproar in the camp. The whole looking at other candidates seems to have been something of a farce that was just enough to keep US soccer out of potential legal trouble since they had already made the decision to rehire GGG. At least 3 of these other coaches have said (Perez, Viera and Curtain) they were not even interviewed only "spoken" to to gauge their interest of which all three have indicated their serious interest. What surprises me is that the contract is apparently through the 26 WC instead of Copa America with an option to the WC depending on how the US does – think Semi-Final. And on top of this given the situation with Reyna, he is open to being criticized whether he plays him or not. If he doesn't play him then it could be seen as retaliation. If he does play GGG may feel he has to play him even in situation where either form or tactical requirements don't make sense. Unlike many people I think GGG did ok through the last cycle but I don't see him taking the team to another level.
What? the morons running USSF lied again? Nothing ever changes. Fans are tired of the pathetic, spineless leadership.
as a canadian fan I'm relieved that greggg is back!
US soccer is in shambles. Most talented team we've ever had and can't even get a coach without some controversy
Even down to how they do the hiring process here is why we can't keep up with the rest of the world on the pitch. We should we getting the most qualified instead of the stupid American approach of "Who you know". Even if he's liked by some in the locker room, who cares? They're 20 year old guys that need direction and guidance. They don't need a friend. They just won Nations League without Berhalter and are widely spoken of as looking the best they've ever looked. TAKE THE HINT, ADMIN!
Pellegrino Matarazzo, the American coach for Hoffenheim, has a degree in Applied Mathematics from Columbia University. Why didn't he get to take the test?
Thr fbi cleaned out the rats in fifa. Now is the time for them to clean out the rats in ussf. Investigate their financial dealings and arrest them.
I remember when I was younger listening Jim Rome always hating on soccer. It's funny to hear he did the interview.
Get ready for us to regress to boring and predicatable play where we eke out wins vs teams we should destroy and lose vs teams we should beat and get destroyed by teams we should be able to compete with. Our federation is a disgrace
I will repeat what I wrote elsewhere about this: the six-month delay was for Berhalter to see if he could find another job after the Reyna family fallout. Once he was "cleared," Berhalter was always the choice, but they were waiting for Berhalter. This is why over 3 months ago you have interviews with current players asking about Berhalter — USSF had already made the choice and was laying the groundwork for him to comeback. The only issue was then whether Berhalter could find something he liked better. Once Berhalter couldn't find another job (he had these grand EPL ideas from what I understand), because after his Hammarby fiasco who would hire hire him, he was cemented to return. I suspect only one other coach was interviewed: Marsch. The rest were "contacted" as back up if option A (Berhalter) and then option B (Marsch) fell through. Marsch was then the fall back option should Gregg find another job. But make no mistake, this was always Berhalter's job and USSF was waiting on him.
It took 6 months for legal clearance it was always Gregg for SOCFED.
I do not remember where I heard or saw this— but GB and Rome maybe* had children who played in a sports league together, and I believe that is how they made a connection. Rome was a huge soccer hater back in the day—- but I think* one of his children was into soccer for a while-
–and or played in a team with one of Berhalter's children—-this softend Rome's stance on soccer, and started the friendship between them.Psychological and mental testing for the coach. Huh?
Again the USSF selection/interview process is again BS. So again they did NOT really interview any other candidates. They wanted to rehire GGG all along.
We didn't give Vieira a chance!!!!! SERIOUSLY! The more I learn, the more I barf.
BERHALTER OUT
It's not an "attempt to be transparent", it's an "attempt to lie"
To USSF, Viera doesn't have the most important line on his resume that Berhalter does: "I am a yes-man"
USSF has been lying to all of us.
Jim Rome has zero credibility anymore –
Something else that struck me odd from the Rome interview. Gregg talked about preparing for the WC but didn't mention Copa. I don't think we are going to take Copa seriously.
