Aston Villa plot Pau Torres move as price tag revealed. Aston Villa have made Villarreal defender Pau Torres a top target after the green light from Unai Emery, sources have told Football Insider.
The Midlands giants are keeping tabs on the highly rated centre-back ahead of January and next summer’s window. Torres, 25, was on the radar of Premier League clubs including Tottenham during the last window but ended up staying at Emery’s former club.
Now Villa are looking at the £40million-valued Spain international as they shortlist targets who can slot into the left-sided centre-back position at Villa Park.
During the last four seasons, he has been an untouchable first choice as well as a dressing room leader. But Emery will look to bring in a top-class centre-back who can fit the playing style he intends to implement at Villa. Pau Torres was instrumental in Villarreal’s transformation under Emery, including in their run to last season’s Champions League semi-final stage.
He has started all 12 of the club’s La Liga matches this season among 15 appearances in all competitions. Since joining Villarreal in 2019, Pau Torres has made 149 appearances and won the Europa League in 2021, the fourth time that Emery had triumphed in the competition.
