It's all down to Ugarte now. But if he somehow ends up choosing to join Chelsea he would be an instant legend with the fans.
PSG did it partly through spite due to the Ziyech situation.
No one is paying £100m for Caicedo. That's just paper talk. He will go for far less than that. We must though start selling players quickly so we don't get clobbered by FFP at end of this month.
I'm glad we are setting a precedent that we won't pay any price.. The Boehly boys don't have an unlimited cheque book. For us to compete consistently we need to allocate capital effectively and bidding wars against the Qatari's aren't going to get us anywhere. Walk away and move on to the next one.

This one stung. Really wanted Ugarte. I understand the money PSG offered scuppered our approach because of our wage structure and FFP, but surely with the clearout we have started we could have taken decisive action and brought in someone we desperately need? What is the alternative? Caicedo? Upwards of £80M and no European football to offer him. Not exactly an attractive proposition when he has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal. Who is he really going to choose? It took us so long to wrap things up and that gave PSG a window to snatch him from us. Another pitifully poor window I fear. The board seem more concerned about this bleeding multi-club model than getting Chelsea back up to speed. Serious lack of priorities.
