Let me know your thoughts on all the Leafs News, who will be next GM? What trades will we see? Will Matthews still want to stay?
Marner to the Jets for Hellebuyuk, including a 6 year extension. That could be a win-win!
Ken Holland welcome to Toronto
Stan bowman lol
LOL! Th Laffs are going off a cliff like an 18 wheeler
of course Shanahan can't badmouth anything Dubas did. He would have signed off on it!
If it doesn't look like Matthews is open to re-signing, trade him. Will Ottawa trade him for Tkachuk?
tavares might get traded if they bring in a new coach.
Leafs should call hextall π
Any trade of Marner to LA has to include Kempe.
Nylander fro JT Miller would be ludicrous.
I think that Shanny needs to see if Matthews & Nylander will Extend. If not, I'm pretty sure that He's Going To Trade Both Of Them, Rather Than Lose Them For Nothing. I'm sure, having watched Him at the time He was A Player, He (Shanny) is a No Nonsense Guy, especially seeing this Guy (A Primary Scorer) Beat The Crap Out Of Opposing Players Who Messed With Him, In The Fights I Saw.
Let me know what you think
I really think that Shanny was On The Fence With Bringing Dubas Back all along. Example being Not Extending Him At The Start Of The Season. I do think that Shanny was Willing To Give Him (Dubas) Another Shot, however, when The $ Thing Became A Factor, He (Shanny) Decided To Make The Change.
The Vancouver, Chicago and Toronto isn't that bad. I'm not saying it'll happen, but, I can see it happening logically.
Maple Queefs Foreverπ¨ππ
The Toronto/LA Trade I don't see as happening as much as The Vancouver, Chicago and Toronto Trade.
Tavares is great two way player π1 point
Vancouver trade definately won't happen. They are still looking for a 3C they aren't going to go into next season needing 2 centers while they are overstocked with wingers. Nylander is also due a new contract is going to want atleast 9M while Miller will be making 8M. With the direction this management is going that would be insane. Liljegren sucks
I need to talk to you. First off, I think the truth was that Dubis was not going to be accepted back. Ge was probably told in game 3 of the second round, loose and you're out but will run the following year not with any team so not to sabotage any following contract negotiations. Auston needs to go. I don't understand the support for him if the information I have is correct. Auston is a center with under 54% faceoff win percentage. While Tavares is higher with 58%. Since Tavares has a no trade contract, we keep Tavares, keep Marner. Why Marner over Matthews? Marner was the best Leaf player with 3 seasons 90 plus points, highest consecutive points earner on the leafs, 99 poonts in this last regular season. I value assists. It shows Marner is a play maker. I would also like to keep Nylander who was top 3 point earner on the Leafs. Although both Marner and Nylander are right wingers, I would try Tavares, Marner, Nylander on the same line. Try to trade Auston even as a loan to Chicago for their draft pick which is suspected to be a 3 year contract. If the Leafs can have all 4 contracts endcat the same time (next three years), do or done opportunity. Win the Cup in the next 3 years or they are all done with the Leafs. I would be fine to promote Woll as full time goalie. If we can't get Chicago's draft choice, if we release Auston, will it open our salary cap to keep Bunting and others currently here that are soon UFA? If so, even better. I'm ok with keeping the team as it is minus Matthews. What did Matthews do? 60 goals 2 seasons ago? That is a personal stat. The team only needs to win with 1 goal and if they can be the best defensively to leave as a tie, that earns them one point that adds up at the end of the regular season. 1 goal lead only important during the playoffs. I think they need better plays. Dumping the puck into opponents zone is never a good plan. Keeping control of the puck is always the better plan. How to take advantage of the right opportunities is what they need to learn.
Those insider trades are both horrible for the Leafs. Both of those Marner and Nylander trades would screw the Leafs more than they already are. I have no idea why Lilijgren is part of that Nylander deal. Nylander, due to his age, is worth more than Miller all by himself. The Nylander trade sounds like it was written by a Vancouver fanboy, although it wouldn't surprise me someone in Toronto wrote it while criticizing Dubas at the same time.
That return for Marner is definitely not worth it. Someone of actual substance would have to come off of LA's roster, like Danault and Kempe. I'm sorry, but if you're not going to include guys like that as part of the package, screw off. That trade just sounds like its trying to get rid of LA's junk to make them an even better contender. Durzi and Byfield and a condition pick for a two-time 1st line all-star and selkie nominee? What a joke. Toronto is not trying to rebuild – it would need options to improve stanley cup contention coming back. Even Vegas had to get rid of Alex Tuch, and that was to a team that was not in contention. So Toronto should accept even less?!?!
I think it doesn't matter though. Gutting Dubas because he was too impatient to wait for Dubas to talk to his wife is going to have ripple effects that Shanahan doesn't even realize. The whole organization has already imploded. Spezza resigning and how the players spoke about Dubas tells me everything I needed to know. We definitely haven't heard the whole story on this one.
It is not sad, a Matthews trade may be inevitable. If he wants to much money on a short deal you can not keep him.
Mock trade for your entertainment:
To ARI: Auston Matthews
To TOR: Clayton Keller
Lawson Crouse
I believe it was the counter offer after the press conference. If the press conference was a way of padding his amount he deserves he when about the wrong way. Im sure him and his agent know the full extension details prior the press conference, it seem as thou he used as away to justify the amount public before the counter offer was made to the Leafs management. It was bad PR on him and his agents part if it wasn't his intention. That PR stunt would work in most organization but not in a proud organizations as the Leafs, which lives and breathes hockey
Spezza's resignation is an indictment against Shanahan.
Eric Karlsson should be the first thing on the maple leafs shopping list, followed by Austin Watson, sndd Liam O'Brian. This team lacks grit and muscle. They got bullied all season long.
Dubas is gone. Seems to have overplayed his hand. Shanahan was a a warrior class player. After losing a playoff round and publicly wining about how tough the job is and deferring to your wife as the decision maker, that would have had to be the end for Dubas in Shanahan's eyes. Not reading the room and having your agent inflate an ask that already accommodated months of negotiated 'must haves' is, in any business, interpreted as bad faith.
Sports is big business but at the end of the day it is just hockey. Anything other than Dubas stating "Tough to stomach the loss but instead, I focus on the awesome organization we have built, which anybody lucky enough to be a part of, knows is 1st class. We have a strong core of character guys who like me, want to win. We make moves to add depth and talent and I believe each year we have gotten better. We will continue to do so and if the leadership of MLSE continues to have faith in me, I am committed to doing anything I can to bring home a Cup to Toronto".
#1 priority IMHO is goaltending. The young guy Woll looked good when called upon and might have the secret sauce but Samsonov was often caught out of position and gave up too many weak goals. Move Samsonov.
Defense was outmatched with both Florida opponents and the Leafs need their Coffey, Leetch, Lidstrom anchors to transition up ice without turnovers. Emphasis on a combination of speed and nastiness.
In terms of trade bait up front I think you need to shake things up.
Not necessarily wholesale changes but certainly a blockbuster with at least one of Tavares, Marner or Mathews needing to go. A Losing attitude is a virus that needs to be cut out.
Edmonton went all in this year and are also out in the 2nd round to Vegas, so perhaps there is a blockbuster McDavid and or Draissaitl for Mathews and or Marner. An explosive move that could shake up both rosters.
Another move is Mathews and Samsonov for the #1 pick with Chicago. Do something bold to grab a potential generational talent and clear cap space.
Is a coaching change warranted? Perhaps. Keep in mind NHL coaches earn their chops through experience and just blowing the coach out does not change a losing culture.
A change could be positive and candidly now more likely but only if a world class guy is ready to step in.
Joel Quenneville comes to mind. He took a bullet for what happened in Chicago but is a proven winner.
Now it gets interesting because Stan Bowman, who won 3 Cups in Chicago (with Quenneville a former Leaf) could come in as a package deal. Shanahan with his relationships with the NHL HO could smooth things over for re-reinstatement for both.
Thoughts?
This is not something I have heard about this is something Iβm asking what do you think about Andrew Burnett as the next head coach for the Washington Capitals?
i believe Hunter told the Flames he wasnt interested
Get out of here with your J T miller stuff everyday.. his attitude can stay in vancouver
Change happens the team needs retooling. Country club
Toronto needs an inspiring coach who will motivate in several different ways in addition to just inspiring players to greatness.
Keep the core four and keep the family together. Find a good goalie and a few thugs for enforcement and on the back end and you are nominal.
Toronto needs to solve its chronic goalie issue and make its chronic defense and goalie issues go away.
Spezza was a hitπ’. When he passed around the tip jar so to speak for the Marlies during the lockdowns that garnered a lot of respect within the organization.
Listening to leafs fans responding here is quite entertaining and comical π please post more videos about Toronto ππ»
