Wojciech Tomasz Szczęsny is a Polish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Serie A club Juventus and the Poland national team. After starting his club career at Legia Warsaw, Szczęsny signed for Arsenal in January 2006, where he made his professional debut in 2009.

His story is even more impressive if you learn that his father and his older brother were goalkeepers too. His father left their mother and Wojtek doesn't talk to him. He took the best revenge on his father with becoming better goalkeeper. His father also played for Poland but never qualified to any international tournament and played only in Polish league. Wojciech surpassed him. His brother sadly got injured.
Szczęsny in Arsenal was competing with other great Polish goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański. Their rivalry was always electrifying Polish fans. They tended to prefer Łukasz as he was more humble and regular. Szczęsny had amazing saves but made stupid mistakes as well. Now he matured and peaked. I love his confidence. Definetely underrated – one of the best goalkeepers in the world nowadays.
My friend played against him in youth teams and guy took every lost goal personal. This world cup is his redemption arc. Polish fans finally respect him for what he does. I think the fact that he worked with Buffon helped him a lot.
