Welcome to our new series, EFL Wonderkids, where we break-down the most impressive breakout campaigns from England’s most unforgiving division – the #Championship.

Episode. 4 is all about #Sunderland’s Amad Diallo, who is on loan from Manchester United – the Ivory Coast international is now on his second spell away from Manchester United after being on loan to Rangers, and the 20 year old has finally found his feet at Sunderland.

A strong contender for the EFL Championship’s Young Player of the Year, the €40m superstar has enjoyed a stellar spell at the Stadium of Light, scoring 13 goals including a beauty against Preston to secure The Black Cats a play-off spot. They play today against Luton Town, and if they manage to secure a surprise promotion back to the Premier League, Amad will be in the hearts of Sunderland fans for the forseeable future.

Here, he talks his incredible rise from playing football with his father as a kid, moving to Italy to join the Atalanta academy amidst interest from Juventus, and the experience of moving to Man United as an 18 year-old. But what did Erik ten Hag tell him before his loan move? And which legendary player does he speak to on the phone? Watch on to find out!

A big thanks to the EFL and EA Sports for making this happen.

  1. I wonder why for this interview they sent a Fulham supporter, and not the Sunderland (or, you know, Man U) supporter. Not saying it HAS to be a supporter, but it might make for better chemistry in the interview. Just an idea

  2. Smashing it at Sunderland!! Hope he does just as well in pre-season for Manchester United and gets a proper run in the team. Would really suit drifting in for the current team and would arguably do a great job in the 8 as well

  3. Smacked in another Banger for Sunderland again tonight, from about 30yds out
Might be prudent to leave him at The club, for some Prem Experience next season
let him Develop with them, while he's doing so well, and be ready for UTD when we need him

  4. Love him and wish him all the best, talented Diallo, I hope he can maintain his fitness and doesn't get any serious injuries in his career so he can develop his physic, mentality and technique to even greater heights. If he has the confidence he can be generational

  5. I can totally see him coming back to United and duking it out with Antony for the spot on the right wing. But I can also see him staying at Sunderland one more season if they take the step up to the prem. No matter which way this goes for the next season he's surely going to make big things happen in the future.

  6. As a United fan Im torn whether it would be best to bring him back next season or give him another full season with Sunderland where he gets a lot of first team game time.

  7. Just imagine garnacho n diallo on the flanks 🔥🔥🔥 cant wait just praying glazer go n sell with gatari n let the new era takeoff

  8. He deserve to play at right wing regularly ETH need to stop being fan boy of Anthony if he don't stop wasting chances lack on scoring goals, anthony should learn from garnacho how to play direct. With Amad i think ManUTD should start making him the permanent Free Kick taker, Let's develop him into a good Set Piece taker, we lack on it right now. Watching those corners and free kicks current ManUTD players takes looks horrible. We used to have best set piece takers in the club like beckham, Ronaldo, Rooney, Nani, Giggs and right now just horrible delivery. I can't remember when we last scored a good direct goal from corners and free kicks.

  9. I'm very happy for Diallo , he has had an excellent season on loan. Hoping he has shown enough for Ten Hag to introduce him to our squad proper! His English seems to have improved a lot as well!
