    Modric received a standing ovation from Argentina fans at the Lusail Stadium.

    Many supporters chose to place their hands together for Modric, who appeared emotional as he headed towards the bench as soon as the referee raised their substitute board.

    And this is what Modric said about the game and the referee:

    It wasn’t a penalty for me. I don’t usually talk about referees, but today it’s impossible not to do so. He’s one of the worst I know. I met him many times and I never had a good memory of him. He’s a disaster.

      With Brazil Croatia played a “fall asleep game”. With Argentina they took too much of the same medicine and they could not wake up. In the first 35 minutes they kept the ball on their half by not playing the game. Their tactics was the complete opposite of what they played in Russia in 2018. The penalty? We should not be thinking in terms of Yes or No. I would say 60% No vs 40% Yes, hence No. I am sure that every team would want to protect their goalkeeper. In that sense we should aleays err in a goalkeeper’s favour. End of story. Congratulations to Argentina!

      What a truly great player Moderic has been, unassuming sort of player that people rarely caused much of a stir but god did he deliver when he had too. I never saw him being a Madrid player didn't seem their type, not flashy enough almost!!!! He has been the linchpin in that team for so long and been a great servant for his home nation Croatia, not as big a profile as Messi, Ronaldo but for me so very, very close as a player on and a role model off the pitch. Players like him deserve to have at least 1 world cup medal………..

      Thankfully my team Serbia dropped in the group stage so I can watch some good football and relax. I was hoping Croatia can reach the final as they deserved it, they were lacking 1 good strikers perhaps, like Mandzukic used to be. Argentina can thank Croatia for beating Brazil, that's for sure. I am sad for Morocco too, like Croatia they've displayed an amazing character. I really don't care who wins, Argentina or France, but I do think both teams deserved to reach the final after all.

      WISH PORTUGAL, THEIR COACH SANTOS AND THEIR PLAYERS STOOD BY RONALDO JUST AS ALL CONCERNED STOOD BY MODRIC AND MESSI. THESE TWO TEAMS RESPECT THE GREAT SKILLS OF THEIR GREATEST EVER PLAYERS AND EVERYONE WORKED AROUND THEM TO TRY THEIR BEST TO WIN THE 2022 WORLD CUP. THEY DID NOT TOTALLY DISREGARD THEM AS THE PORTUGAL TEAM AND COACH IGNORED RONALDS KILLER INSTINCTS AND SUPERB PLAY AND FITNESS. IT'S WHY THEY TOOK AN EARLY FLIGHT HOME. IT'S THE ULTIMATE SHOW OF RESPECT TO MESSI BY THEIR COACH AND PLAYERS FOR HIS DEDICATION TO ARGENTINA. IT'S THE REASON "MESSI AND ARGENTINA" ARE IN THE FINALS. BEST WISHES TO ARGENTINA. MAY THEY WIN THE WORLD CUP ON SUNDAY.

      Modric is one of those rare footballers who is respected by everyone. Other examples I can think of are Zidane, Iniesta, Xabi Alonso, Buffon and Ronaldo Nazario.
